nonstop Posted March 18, 2014 Report Posted March 18, 2014 Hey guys, My 54 Royal is coming along quite well, but I ran into not so much a problem, as it is a lack of knowing what to look for. Long story short, I found a set of seat handles (the ones that go on the back of the front bench seat). They also turned out to be for a 54 DeSoto, but it is what it is. Anyway, I went to go put them on the other day and as I was getting ready to mount them, I discovered my car did not come with the 2 handles like I have, but rather the long rope style thing that strung across the back seat. In my defense, it was removed when the vintage seat cover was put on who knows how many years ago - and I didn't check it out until now. So, the question is what is the rope thing called, with brackets, and where do I even get this piece? I have only found one or two pictures of this thing. Thanks for any help, Nick Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted March 18, 2014 Report Posted March 18, 2014 It was to hang a "lap robe" or blanket on for use by passengers in the back seat if they got cold. At least, that what I recall it being for. Quote

desoto1939 Posted March 18, 2014 Report Posted March 18, 2014 The rope cord was used to hang a lap blanket. When there were pasedngers inthe back seat they would also yuse the rope to pull themselce out fronthe rear seat. It really should not be used as a pull cord. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote

nonstop Posted March 18, 2014 Author Report Posted March 18, 2014 Guys, I figured I could count on you! I have never really seen one before! Were these still optional in the fifties, or was this likely more of an add on? I did not see it in any of my literature or parts lists. Thank you again! Quote
greg g Posted March 18, 2014 Report Posted March 18, 2014 I remember most cars having them till about 54/55 especially upper level cars like Chrysler Buick, Olds etc. Quote
