dodge59 Posted December 22, 2014 Author Report Posted December 22, 2014 having a little problem tring to make the vinyl windlace around the door jams. first of all ...........I need a special sewing machine foot to duplicate that stitch . the welt cord sticks up to high in order to stitch it. and I stll haven't found a real sticky glue to hold it together either sooooooooo................. I may have to purchase some all done. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 I used a zipper foot to make mine. It allows the needle to be very close to the cord side. If you have an extra or old foot, you could grind one side off to up next to the cord. 1 Quote
dodge59 Posted December 22, 2014 Author Report Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the tip Niel . I priced everything out if I were to do it myself and I could buy 9 feet of black vinyl windlace with a 1/2" cord all done for less than $30.00 . I think I will go that route since I do not have the correct tools to do the job. john Edited December 22, 2014 by dodge59 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 If I could have gotten mine done for $30, I would have gone that way too! That's a no-brainer. 1 Quote

fstfish66 Posted December 26, 2014 Report Posted December 26, 2014 you should be proud that car is different and a head turner,,,love the V EIGHT emblem on the trunk,,that has to be hard piece to find 1 Quote
dodge59 Posted December 26, 2014 Author Report Posted December 26, 2014 Thanks fstfish ! I'm Very Proud. I can't wait to show her off . here is a pic of my 54 dodge royal 4 door . 74k all original paint, interiior ,chrome . Quote
dodge59 Posted December 28, 2014 Author Report Posted December 28, 2014 well . starting to lay the carpet to see how eveything is fitting and came up with an issue where the carpet was cut for the gas pedal opening . appears they mis -calculated the cut and sew. it's hand made and sewn expecially for a 54 dodge convertible . the jute padding fit fine and I laid another padding under that jute for more comfort and quiteness. I'll have to open that all up and start over to correct that . how would you guys correct that ?. the rubber square pad for you feet is suppose to be up against the bottom of the gas pedal . just goes to show you again .. reproduction parts never fit poperly. fstfish66 Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 dont look like the slit for the gas pedal is in the correct spot,,,, ide send them those pics u need it corrected,, Quote
dodge59 Posted December 28, 2014 Author Report Posted December 28, 2014 fstfish The thing is .......... If I'd send it back to them to correct the issue they would really screw it up. I'll just do it myself. I have a sewing machine here. Quote
dodge59 Posted December 28, 2014 Author Report Posted December 28, 2014 (edited) after studying this issue with the carpet by the gas pedal ......... It appears I could just cut another slit just above the rubber pad where your feet rest on....... then re-inforce or stich that area from behind so it won't un ravel . The square rubber pad is in the correct spot just need the get that extra material , behind the pedal. what do you guys think ? Thanks ! Edited December 28, 2014 by dodge59 Quote

pflaming Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 You are proof that if one takes a pattern and works it, upholtery is essentially a matter of patience and mind over matter. Needless to say, you are doing excellent work, I'm watching quite closely as are others. Be careful or you may show up some of these cars in the Route 66 Rally. 1 Quote
