jonesmerc Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 How does the horn wire from the button get to the engine compatment? It doesn't seem to come thru the firewall with the wiring harrness. Pat Quote
Phil Martin Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 It goes down thru steering column Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Here is a secret: If the horn wire is still in the steering tube then tape and I say again tape a pice of string to end of the old wire. Slowly pull the horn wire out from the top of the steering wheel. The connect your new wire to the string and then pull it back down the shaft. If you did not do this then you will have a hard time to get the new wire out the end of the small hole inthe steering tube. Rich Hartung Quote
_shel_ny Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 You should see the wire coming out the end of the column going to a bullet connector. Quote
DCurrent Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 I wished I had that picture when I was trouble shooting my horn wire last spring. I was looking all over the column for the wire short of the gearing. Quote
pflaming Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) IF: 1) you do not have a wire in the column or 2) you cannot reach it, I take a long piece of soft wire, I call it baleing wire, and push it up the shaft then a. solder a piece of new wire to that wire or 2) connect in another fashion so that the connection will go through the bottom hole and then gently pull the new wire in. It helps if someone feeds the new wire from the top, that removes any stress on the connection. A long piece of #10 wire is also stiff enough to push up the column. Good luck. doctor dirt Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Just finished mine and the string is a must to do. Pop the horn button or yours might have the three screws on the back of the wheel as mine did. Leave some excess to the wire length because I believe the wire flips n flops around in the column. If your relay is bad their avalible with a google search or possible found through car quest or napa. I tuned my horns up and they sounded great. Good luck Doc. 1 Quote
