Who Took There Old Mopars Out This Xmas Eve?

Hello, and Merry Christmas to all, this is a question for the car and truck owners. How many of you drove your old mopars today or this evening? 

I took mine out for a spin after dark, outside temp 5 above, dark frosty, just went for a 5 mile drive, but enjoyed it. These bias ply tires are fun on a bit of slick icy roads, so took it easy.

So for you that drove the Old Mopar this Christmas eve, hope you enjoyed it......

I did today after painting and putting the dash back together. These old cars are perfect for 50 degree days, especially with a few holes in the firewall for some heating. Merry Christmas guys!

the '48 has been running much better since cracking open the carb to unstick the moving parts, it even started in 20F weather a few weeks ago.  So yesterday, I fired it up for a trip to the post office as temps were in the 40s.  Who needs a heater when most of the firewall & floorboard insulation is gone, the heater is on all the time.  Later, I loaded some lumber into it (and a frying pan with some hamburger grease) for a ride up the hill to use my Dad's carpentry tools (and let the dogs clean out the pan).  I'll even take a ride in it today to blow some more of the leaves out it :cool:

First we had snow then we had a salt tsunami.  so no excursions here.   Did take it ou a few years ago on New Years it was about 5 degrees and clear with no sow for a week.

I had my '41 out of the garage Monday so I could get one of the newer cars in to work on it. Only ran in the driveway and in and out of the garage since the salt tsunami Greg speaks of hit here also.

We have had 1 of the coldest Decembers on record. Very little salt in my area, outside of the major city. Dry super cold, not going to hurt the sheet metal on this truck.

I would not drive any vintage car in the salt belt areas either. Manitoba,Sask and Alberta can be wicked cold and dry, a lot of old cars and trucks in rural areas survived without rusting to badly for this reason. A lot of floors got rotten not from salty roads, but from laying on the ground with weeds growing under tham....

On Xmas Eve Day, I got up at 6:00 AM and took Lil Jenny out to do a market run for today's extended family and friends Xmas dinner. It's going to be 80+ today. I know, that's too crazy warm for Xmas.

 

Last night while watching, "White Christmas" with Bing, Danny Kay and Rosemary Clooney, I noticed that the cabs used in the movie were Plymouths like mine.

Does this count?

Our farm equipment light parade.  Fun, had my grand kids in the bed. 

On a side note, one of the entries was a very nice mid 50's Oldsmobile. Seems the plastic oil line broke, oil accumulated on the engine worked it way to the manifolds and at the end of the slow parade it burst into flames. Lot's of damage even though the fire men were not far away. Bummer.

Would have loved to take mine out, but it snowed. The road crew was right on top of things, with

plowing and salting. So the old girl stayed snuggled into her heated garage. I even hesitate to take her out if it looks like rain. She's definitely not a trailer queen, but I try to take good care of her as best I can. Probably out of the garage again around April.

I too would have liked to take mine out, but there is just too much salt on the road. I thought there might be a chance after we got all that rain, but it quickly froze and they poured more salt. O-well, I'll just have to wait it out.

Friggin salt, and calcium chloride is worse. Sometimes colder areas are better for a winter drive, either you want a place with no snow, or much colder than 32f, where salt has little effect. A lot of times up here, the roads and highways are completely dry, especially when it is cold.

Hey wouldn't it be nice to have an old P15 beater, in great mechanical form to cruise around with in winter, without having to worry too much about the sheet metal. There are some of these up here, but not many, most vintages vehicles are parked until April...

Funny you mention another P15 for fun in all weather. I have been keeping my eyes open for another, but no such other car yet. Probably a good thing since I spent all my money this past month on freaking gifts for everyone else.

If you want a snow car par excel-lance, get a VW and put good snow tires on it. With the engine in the rear, independent suspension and the smooth bottom, a VW will go most anywhere.  Had three In Omaha, great little cars.

VW beetles okay little cars, gas heaters suck, in serious cold weather. None of these old rear wheel drives do perform like a FWD, they are very good in snow and ice compared to the old RWD.

I used to have to install frost shields, snow tires in the rear, good to go...
