Jeff Balazs
I have been thinking about a cross-the-bed box for my truck for quite a while. Hadn't really seen anything like I wanted so I decided to shoot from the hip. Had to be big enough to throw a couple of overnight bags and a small ice chest into for road trips. I have matched the bed wood and it is light enough to easily remove when it's not needed. It is not quite done yet........but you get the idea. It will get locks and finish of course. Dave72dt
That's going to scratch the paint! Work your business logo into the lids and leave it in the truck permanently. May be the start of a new trend.
ggdad1951
walnut looks like! Nice! If it's black walnut I use it extensively in furniture I build for myself.

Jeff Balazs
Thanks guy's.....glad you like it. It is black walnut to match the wood in the bed. Left over kinda rustic looking stuff. It will set on pads made of conveyor belt to protect the paint and be held in place by a couple of hidden bolts. Plus I just had to be different. Merle Coggins
That's awesome, Jeff. How will it hold up to the elements on your daily driver? Merle
ggdad1951
here's a wood bed for you Jeff....brought back home from the farm after T-day.
Jeff Balazs
Mark; That looks like quite the load from the farm. All I got that is of lumber size on my "farm" is Eucalyptus..... As long as I keep a decent finish on it my walnut box should hold up fine. It certainly wasn't my first choice in this application.....but it was paid for and sitting there doing nothing. ggdad1951
I've kicked a very similar idea around for FEF, but so far have abstained from doing anything to not mark up his pretty paint job...
Jeff Balazs
Yah this is what happens when you do too nice a job on one of these old trucks. That is one reason I didn't fix all the dents and dings......Me I don't mind some scuffs etc...I just didn't want to be afraid to use it like it is supposed to be. John-T-53
Looks great Jeff! So you going to put some type o' spar varnish on it?
Jeff Balazs
Mark; No next truck here.......this one is just going to have to take a licking and keep on ticking. This is the last vehicle I will ever own....and it is all I got. Hey John; I have never really cared for the way spar varnishes hold up. I will be using water based polyurethane varnish. Much nicer to work with and a light sanding followed by a re-spray and it's good to go with out all the fuss. A couple of applications of paste wax a year and it should be good for 3-5 years. Jeff Balazs
Thank you guy's. I will post some photos of it when I have had time to get it finished. I will probably end up leaving it on most of the time......but it should only take a couple of minutes to remove when it is going to be in the way. Jeff Balazs
I finally got a chance to spray this box and get it mounted. It is probably not everyone's cup of tea but I have a feeling I will get a lot of use out of it. It is held in place with two bolts so it can be removed in less than 5 minutes.
