ggdad1951 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I'm guessing it's easiest to repair these by drilling out the spot welds and pulling them off? Quote
HanksB3B Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) Not FEF right? A faster way... With this method you get to throw the rest of the bed out Checking Inventory before Fedex'ing the stake pockets to Windom Minnesota it's for the trailer, yes is the answer to your question (air chisel instead of drilling?) 48Dodger Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) Use the special spot weld drills...comes with a attachment for the drill bits. It drills around the weld. 48D Here's a cheapy one from Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/3-8-eighth-inch-double-sided-rotary-spot-weld-cutter-95343.html Edited December 8, 2013 by 48dodger 1 Quote
52b3b Joe Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 I have been drilling them out with a regular bit. I haven't taken a pocket off, I have just been cutting off the bad and making patches. I am replacing the angle on the sides for the floor which is more time consuming than I thought it would be. Young Ed Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 Mark as the others said you need a spot weld cutter. I picked up a few at harbor freight about a year ago and have since removed the dash from a cab and a couple stake pockets from junk bedsides. It goes pretty easily. Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 I cut out the bad spots, fit a patch in , weld and grind smooth. Only pic I have of how much I cut out. Had one of patch tacked in and one after weld and grind, no filler required, they're on a dead computer, sorry. http://p15-d24.com/gallery/image/699-build-pics/ Quote

I guess I should have put pictures up the first time maybe, but here they are now. My skills are probably not as good as a lot of you but this is what I did. Quote
