Davin, may I suggest you freeze a couple pounds of kangaroo hamburger, wrap it tightly and bring it along.  That would really keep the day hoppin'!  ;)

With Davin, this may be the first international Pilot-House BBQ. Any Canadians driving down, 48 has room, both in his new parking lot and in his heart.

I put the suburban in the front garage so I can tune up my B3B for the drive to the BBQ which is ONLY EIGHT weeks away.  So out of curiosity I took a look at the Technical Archives section and found a goodly number of things to do that are cost free. I will reference that section much more often from now on.

I'm thinking of bringing my 9 year old grandson along. He's well behaved and I want him to become acquainted with the mechanical world. I would put Friday night dinner on the manifold and xtra food in a  cooler, his bicycle in the bed and make some memories.

Paul, I'm not sure how I'd go getting through Customs over there if I was loaded up with Kangaroo burger meat, Kanga Banga's (Kangaroo sausages), or Kangaroo steak. It would be a buzz at the BBQ though! I'm hoping to clear Customs quickly over there so that I don't hold up our mate Hank who will be waiting for me in the carpark of the airport.

Great news! Stop by Nowra and pick up Ryan. :)

Kevin, I'm sure that Ryan would have loved to come along. I was hoping to travel with fellow Aussie forum member IanD but it didn't work out this time. I have actually made plans to fly direct from Brisbane (13½ hours fly time), but almost had to do a stopover closer to Ryan's place as most flights from here travel via Sydney.

I am making in-roads with setting up our own annual truck meeting here in SE Queensland. I spoke with our local transport authority a couple of weeks ago and obtained the information that I required. I now just need to set the venue and send out the invitations. We have a restricted registration class here that we call 'club rego', which makes registration fees much cheaper but at the same time restricts the road use of the vehicle - this causes a minor issue with a truck meeting due to those use restrictions placed on truck owners. I will speak with the organizers of a local (Ipswich) car club 'sanctioned' event and try to arrange a truck meeting for later this year. The huge success of the tailgate BBQ over there provides me with the inspiration, and will also provide me valuable insight into organizing/hosting such an event.

2 months away!!!!! Dang......

Getting notes from members who are trying to get time off and/or plane tickets. I don't want to share names cuz its tough explaining why it didn't work out and that sort of thing...so I'll just say, I hope it works out for everyone who trying to put it together!

Davin...I'll show you everything I know about puttin on a BBQ...should take about 5 mins..lol.

A story about last year......I get a call from a guy the day of the 6th Annual BBQ. He wants to stop by and see what's going on, he found the flyer on the internet that morning. I'm thinking, wow...all the guys who worked hard to be here, this poor guy will probably be just far enough away that the party will be over by the time he gets here. I told him the address and I asked him where he lived....he was only 20 miles away...I said "cool" you'll like these trucks. He said that he had never seen one before last week. He liked the truck, it was for sale, so he bought it. I could not believe it.....he drove up with his wife in his Red 48....right into one of biggest gathering of Pilot-house trucks this side of planet. lol. Seemed most of the day he was being told that "this isn't normal....you won't find a bunch like this out there in the real world"...lol. He's coming back again this year...and he still has the truck...!!

I'm tuning up my truck for it's 2nd 180 mile trip. I rebuilt the fuel pump yesterday and have a spare and tools under the seat. I'm checking out the generator / regulator / electrical system today, check the points, clean the plugs, will change the oil, put it on a lift and recheck all bolts and nuts.

So if you haven't painted yours yet, come anyway patina trucks are parked up front at the BBQ! My wife is considering making the trip with me. Jerry and Holly came down to get a 4 speed tyranny after last year's BBQ, since then her interest in taking the trip has changed. Got to figure that out, she won't want to camp out, so maybe come on Saturday, get a motel that night in Gold country and drive the foothill route home. Any one want to caravan with me?

48D,

What are the details? (Please don't say go to Clements and follow the old Dodge trucks)

My truck may not be ready for the year, but I promise I will make it to one of these BBQs. They really sound like fun and I would really enjoy meeting some of my vintage Mopar friends face to face.

Would be great to meet you Charles...we'll get the truck eventually!

Read post #1, and post #37 on page two for the flyer. That should give you and idea of what's going on. We have confirmed some long distant travelers too....Merle, Mark (ggdad), and Davin from Australia. Hank will be driving up with Davin, so maybe you guys could get a convoy going... ^_^

From my experience that won't work. Address may be Clements but I think it might be closer to Lodi and in any case it is out away from town in either case.

Thinking I might crash the party with my Plymouth car this year. Only about 100 miles from here and I haven't had many excuses to get the car out as I'd like.

Since Tod brought it up, will you still have room for Mopar Cars this year with the #'s attending keeps getting bigger. :)

Tents, trailers, trucks!??  :D

It would totally work!....Lodi is west of me by 15 miles (edge of town is about 12 miles where the hotels are)....I live so far out in the country, different areas "claim" me. lol. If you drive North 99, you get off at Hwy 88 (well south of Lodi) and head north/east to Clements. When you get to Brandt Rd, you turn east and head out  4 miles to my place......FOLLOW THE OLD TRUCKS!!!!

Yes my third, bigger, better every year!
:) Don't really want to miss, But if you don't have room I'd understand!
:( If out-of towners keep growing you'll needed to rent portable trailers and rent-a -beds to your place for a week!
Airport shuttles?

I'd walk into it if I had to! Party Crasher!

Got a place to hide a 55 chev. again?  My friend may want to hang out again.  He still does not have any of his 49 and 50  ply. bus. coupes, or the 2 dr. 50 ply.driveable yet.

Tim, you might locate some of those old trucks at key intersections with appropriate arrows.

anybody driving from the bay area...and want to caravan there?

Not entirely sure I'm going but if I do then caravanning would be fine with me. Where are you located?

Are you okay with freeway driving? If I'm on my own I'd be coming east on CA237 to I-680 to I-580. Probably some reasonable rendezvous someplace there.

Its confirmed!.....Don Coatney will be attending the BBQ this year!!

When it comes to classic cars, flatheads and pointless trivia...Don is another one of those guys that's forgotten more than I've learned. lol

This will be the second time he's set foot on the ranch and his first BBQ. I plan on getting a special out of state travelers picture for the wall.

Reps from Washington, Oregan, Nevada, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Tennesee, Australia, and possibly Georgia and Illinios.....wow!!

My hats off to the Southern California guys who will be driving up too! Its not a short trip...depending on the route, and how you drive, it can be 5 plus hours.

I really hope this news tips the scale for you Tod..lol. roughly a 2 hour drive for most in the Bay Area, its always great to see everyone year after year!

Misclaneous notes: Dave from Jamestown, Ca (30 mins away) will be bringing (I hear) four custom 30's era Dodges. He brought two last year. Keven is bringing examples of his work he does on the guages (great stuff). The number of local trucks has risen with the soon to completed 48 B1-C Dodge Truck that Ted H. has been working on. He brought it on a trailer last year along with his 48 Ford Truck. Several other trucks are being worked on in the area and just might be done in time. Personally I have my fingers crossed that Richard finds a way to bring his 51 Route Van. ^_^

Yea, michelle's truck should have no problems on the road......meeting somewhere around mission in fremont could work.

thanks

Tim!  I've seen pictures of Don - I don't think he's a flat head.  As I remember, he's kinda round.  Anyway, I'm recruiting all the local trucks I can get.  I've got a confirmed '51 Dodge, '48 Ford, '55 Chevy, a "maybe" '55 Dodge, a "maybe" '56 Ford, and I spotted another '56 Ford today I'm going to track down.  Also got a lead on a Pilothouse in the area but I haven't seen it yet.  Tell me when to STOP!
