John Reddie Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I thought it was a '33 or ' 34 Hudson but the slots on the hood sides don't match photos of these cars. I don't recognize the front seat style either. Thanks for any info. John R Quote
GlennCraven Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Oldsmobiles of the period had a rakish grille like that, horizontal vents on the bonnet and wipers mounted above the windshield. But I can't find any photos of cars with vents exactly like these above. Quote
busycoupe Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 (edited) A 1934 Studebaker looks close, but a 1934 Graham is a better match. The Graham has the wipers on the top of the windshield and wheels that match. Dave Edited October 6, 2013 by busycoupe Quote
John Reddie Posted October 6, 2013 Author Report Posted October 6, 2013 Thanks for the responses. I looked up Graham cars of that vintage but the doors wern't the suicide style like pictured. Could it be a foreign make perhaps? I am familiar with many cars of this era but this one is a puzzler. John R Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 the very seat frame screamed foreign to me... Quote
De Soto Frank Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Got me a ltitle buffaloed... At first I thought it might be Hudson or Terraplane, but no... Then maybe Graham or Hupp... nada. or Nash / Lafayette.... nope. Or something Studebakerish... ixnay. If we're going European, from what I can see of it, that front tire does not look like anything I've seen on US cars of the period... My guess would be German or French... ? Quote
Don Jordan Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 One thing about being foreign is it has left hand drive. Interesting he is using a crank. Quote
GlennCraven Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I considered foreign, too, but was put off from that a bit by the left-hand drive. Quote
austinsailor Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Right hand drive was only British and Swedish. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I considered foreign, too, but was put off from that a bit by the left-hand drive. All of Europe except England has the steering wheel on the left.............. Quote
austinsailor Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 At the time Sweden was on the right. In September of 1967 they switched to the left. I was there about a week before. It was quite interesting, and we went when we did just for that reason. Left Frankfurt, Germany in. 57 VW bug, drove nearly to the arctic circle. At the border crossing from Denmark you just crossed to the other side after clearing customs. All the street markings had been changed - arrows for turning, all that. Signs had all been changed, but had covers over them. Just after we left, at change time, all driving was banned for, I think it was 12 hours. Then the countrywide speed limit was about 30 for a day or two, then gradually increased. The first fatality from this was the first day an old man looked the wrong way for traffic, then stepped in front of a truck. Same thing nearly happens to me when we stopped to take pictures. Yes, it's even difficult to walk when they drive on the wrong side. I'm guessing they have it figured out by now. Quote

TodFitch Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 1935 Renault From the web pictures I see, this looks plausible. Most of the images have a different front bumper and a radiator cap/hood ornament that differ but the car in this picture looks well used so those differences can probably be overlooked. Quote
GlennCraven Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 1935 Renault Ding ding ding ... I believe we have a winner. 1 Quote
De Soto Frank Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) Ah... Renault. no wonder it's on the sidewalk with the hood open... it's a wonder that Pierre doesn't have the girlfriend out there cranking, while he smokes a cigarette... it also appears that our mystery car has no headlight lenses...
