ferdball Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 So I picked up this fuel filler neck grommet from roberts a couple months ago and it's only been on my truck about 6 weeks. and it installed just fine. I did notice it was a bit more flimsy than the original. Then today I hopped in to go for a drive and noticed that it was split and on closer inspection it is cracking all around the edges.????? (SEE ATTACHED PHOTO) Anyone had similar luck with roberts rubber? Guess I'll go back to original or try again if they'll replace for free....... Maybe I should try steele this time. Dont want to waste any more time on this. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Whatever you decide to do , let Roberts know so that he is aware of the problem . Send him the photo . Perhaps the problem will be corrected for the next guy . Quote
MBF Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 I bought two of these many years ago. They're still holding up very well. Quote
Mark D Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 You should call Gary Roberts and tell him about this. He's always been more than accomodating with issues or requests I've had. by the way, I just checked his URL and it seems he's recreated his whole web site. Quote
desoto1939 Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 maybe they sent you thr wrong rubber grommet. I know they list seperate car and truck fuel gromments. Check to see if they sent you the correct one. You might have gotton one that is tight and then it split because it was too small for the filler pipe. Just a thought. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
B2B Ed Higbee Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Got mine from Gary too several years ago and it's still ok. Gary has always been very nice to me but I've bought some things like glove box bumpers from him that weren't correct. I think that some of his suppliers might not be giving him what he expects from them. Ed Quote
Kensoldtruck Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I got all of my rubber for my 49 resto from Roberts. Everything is still holding up well and it has been close to 20 years. The only problem that I had was the rear window rubber was just too thick to fit in the corners of the back glass and I had to have the rear glass put in by a window shop using their own gasket. B2B Ed Higbee Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I looked at my filler neck and it has some cracks too. I talked to Gary Roberts and he sent me a new one. He would like you to call him if you have any problems at all and he will try to fix it. Quote
HanksB3B Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I'm not surprised. Robert's Motor Parts is good with stuff like that. Hank Quote
Jim Shepard Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I've gotten good stuff and bad stuff from Roberts. I think Gary frequents this site and reads comments and, to my experience, has tried to set things right. Interestingly, years ago I bought my rubber from Steele and everything but the vent window gaskets fit fine. I sent them back and ordered a pair from Gary. They went right in with no problem and have held up very well over the years. I have had no problem returning stuff to Roberts... Quote

To be honest I was not impressed with Steele Rubber quality or customer service. I got my vent window rubber from Gary and it fit perfect. I think he is a stand up guy.......perhaps with the same limitations most small business's have.....but he seems to care and is helpful. Steele on the other hand were completely useless when it came to install suggestions for the corner windows. Their answer was " Yes they are a PITA" When I found the right tips here it was easy.
