fortunateson
I'm hoping to replace the 4.1 rear gears with a 3.54. The axle spline count is different. I heard that some parts can easily be swapped to allow the 11 spline truck axles to be use with the replacement pumpkin. Comments? Oldguy48
I think you're going to have to provide more specific information before you'll get an answer to that question. What vehicle are you working on? What vehicle is the replacement pumpkin out of? What axles are you hoping to use? I'm pretty sure the knowledgeable forum members here will be glad to help you out if you give them all the information you can on what you want to do. fortunateson
Well the truck is '42 Fargo with a '46-47 rear end and 4.1 gears. The replacement pumpkin is out of a early '50's Chrysler product and has 3.54 gears ( I got the pumpkin out of a homebuilt harvesting machine). I was led to believe that swapping the side gears will allow the older axles (I think 11 spline) to be used with the newer pumpkin.

Looking at Hollander interchange manuel only gives some clues, no diffenant answers without know exactly what you have and from what, or maybe how many spider gears are in the rearend, # of splines etc. Seems that It cannot be answered with out that info. You're going to have to jump in remove the current 3rd. member and check, compare etc. and with that info more answers can be had if you then still have them. Some things may show themselves by comparing the two third members. Best of luck with the swap! Doug
Don Coatney
You might have better luck posting on the truck side. Hopefully a moderator can move this thread.
Young Ed
Check them first as early 50s may or may not be the same. The switch was 53-54ish. Dad and I did this side gear swap in my 48 to put in a 3.73.
