anthonys48 Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 I need someone to tell me how to fix a exhaust leek on my 48 plym. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 is it leaking the manifold due to a crack, or manifold to engine, manifolds split joint, heat riser shaft, manifold to header pipe, header to muffler, muffler, or rear tail pipe.. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 I see you also have a Model A. If it had an exhaust leak how would you fix it? Exhaust systems work the same way on most cars. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 They are different on Plymouths because of the positive ground. 1 Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 Don,.....can you smell something onion like? That will lead you to the source of the matter..... Quote
TodFitch Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 They are different on Plymouths because of the positive ground. Aren't Model A Fords also positive ground? Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 Yes Model A is positive ground. What does the grounding have to do with this question? The manifold intake permits the mixture of the air and gas to atomize and then be sucked into the appropriate intake value and then into the cylinder at the appropriate time to be fired. The on the exhaust stroke the exhaust value open that the exhaust goes out the exhaust manifold throught the muffler and tailpipe. Basic process Rich Hartung Quote

greg g Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 (edited) Old school Start the car, plug the end of the exhaust with a rag ( preferable not one soaked in gas) this will exacerbate the leak and should allow you to pinpoint it. wouldn't the exhaust since the system is connected to ground reflect the chassis grounding?????? Plymouthy Adams Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 must not be a critical issue as he has signed in today without listing specifics... Quote
