pflaming Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Just very curious what kind of snow you members in the NE are getting? Be careful shevoling, we don't want to lose anyone. Quote
Mark D Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Paul - The snow just started here in central Mass. I was supposed to be flying home from Los Angeles this morning but managed to get a seat at the last minute yesterday and made it home. Landed last night at 9:30p and walked through a very deserted airport. Boston has declared a state of emergency, the trollies and buses are going to cease at 3p today. The governor has mandated all cars be off the roads at 11a this morning. Execs at the office pulled the plug and let the 3000 employees stay off the roads. Will add some photos to the thread when it starts to get interesting! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 at least some signs of taking public safety a bit seriously.. Quote

TR Waters Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 It is just a little snow. Seems like every storm nowadays is a "storm of the century". 1 Quote
frankieflathead Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Gents, If you get basic cable TV, the Weather Channel is running a marathon on the storm today. -Randy And unfortunately exaggerating and sensationalizing it every chance they get. After all, they have to fill all that time with something, and hyping every snowstorm that comes up the east coast as "The Storm of the Century" is one way that they do it. I suspect things might get a little difficult for folks along the coast from New York to Boston, but if we get much more than a foot up here in southern Vermont, I'll be very surprised. To us, this is just an old fashioned snow storm. It'll snow, then it'll blow and then it'll go. Quote
frankieflathead Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 It's been snowing for a few hours here in southern Vermont and it's just covered the bare spots on the ground. The heavier stuff is supposed to come in overnight, but if we get much more than a foot up here in southern Vermont, I'll be very surprised. What ever happens, I'm ready!...... Quote

greg g Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 \Been snowing here in CNY since about 7:00 AM, accumulation so far is < 1/2 inch. They are forecasting 4 to 12 inches through Saturday. Snow is coming from the SE so far, our normal Lake effect snow comes from the NW so far a non event. Ground had about 3 inches from the last thing that blue through. Quote
frankieflathead Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Does the rear spoiler help the traction when running at speed with the chains? Precisely, Don! Quote
frankieflathead Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Pretty upscale looking snow removal equipment you have there... Yeah Tod, but the nitromethane bills are just killing me! Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Just about half an inch here in the Western Catskills. I got called to work this morning at 10am to go out and sand the roads before the school busses went out at 10:30am. Just got home, may get called back to work later this evening, but so far the storm hasn't amounted to anything by HYPE on the Weather Channel Quote
Daliant. Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 So far we have about 10" of snow here in Lockport, NY and it's still coming down, it's pretty much a non event around here. I might have to plow the driveway later. Quote
greg g Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Snow falling at about 1 inch per hour here now should be tapering off after 8PM. Just in time for home bound work traffic, cars moving at about 35 Mph down from their usual 60. Plows have been by in both directions twice in the past hour. Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 8:35 PM Friday night. We are now getting snow here in the burbs of Philadelphia. It is starting to lay on the streets and lawns. They estimate 3-6 inches for us around Philly and higher as you go north to NJ and the Poconos tonight. Rich Hartung Quote
Mark D Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 7" measured on the driveway as of 8:30p, wind has really kicked up and it's close to white out most the time now. But blowing snow is a good thing, it's light and moves easy with the blower. Quote
rtlsnakedaddy Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) Looks like we're currently about 4-5" up here in the Lakes Region of NH. Picking up and blowing strong though. My wife made it back early last night from Philly. She was supposed to drive home this evening, but got out early for the storm. Luckily the '54 is indoors right now, as its missing quite a bit of metal. Erich Edited February 9, 2013 by rtlsnakedaddy Quote
fstfish66 Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 11 pm friday philadelphia pa burbs ground is just about white,, all depends on what source you listen to as to the amount of snow they are calling for,, i totally agree,,every thing these days is a STORM,, all hype, if theres no drive by shootings to talk about they hype up the weather,,maybe that in with the grocery stores to help them sell out for all the people that love to be in panic mode,,, Quote
greg g Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 Aha! Another regional lexicographic anomaly. Did you notice, that the show was beginning to "lay" on the ground in PA. Around here when it begins to accumulate we say its "sticking". So how is the start of ground accumulation refereed to other places it snows? Quote
fstfish66 Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 snow belongs on a post card,,, Quote

Up early this AM and it's still too dark to be sure, but it looks like we got about a foot and it's still coming down. Quote
TR Waters Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 Nothing coming down right now. We have a total of maybe 6 inches where I am in central Vermont. It looks like alot because the ground was bare prior to this. Quote
frankieflathead Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) 11 inches of fluffy, white powder here this AM. A skier's dream and plowman's pleasure. A little airy right now, but the wind will probably pick up later today as the storm center pulls away.... Edited February 9, 2013 by frankieflathead Quote
Mark D Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 We've gone from sticking to STUCK. Travel on roadways is still banned or face a $200 fine. Still snowing at a good clip here, weather man says we'll see sunlight around 3pm. Wifes explorer to the left, my truck to the right. Daughters car appears to have the correct color for finding something stuck in the snow. Quote
