wills 51
I have a 230 in my 51 dodge and have been having problems with acceleration, I have checked the accelerator pump and it's working fine also checked fuel pump and replaced fuel filter no problems checked plug wires there fine and just adjusted the sisson choke according to the manual and it idles and runs great until the butterfly opens all the way up then it sputters and spits back thru the carburetor, Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm going in circles here.. John Reddie
Your description of the symptoms point to a possible lean mixture possibly caused by a vacuum leak. That would explain the engine running properly until the choke fully opens thus leaning the mixture. I would check all vacuum connections to rule out any leaks. Good luck to you. Niel Hoback
Backfiring thru the carb almost always means too lean a mixture. It does sound like you have a vaccum leak somewhere.
Plymouthy Adams
do not rule out a bit of trash in the main jet or just beyond the main jet inside the passage way..the carb can be dismantled and clened out by back flushing with a bit of WD-40 and the red tube that comes with it and compressed air..
