Hello!

I'm a new first post person here, I'm not a mechanic but I'm learning, and I drive a 1947 Dodge D-25. My parking brake is worn down to nothing, hardly holds the car any more, and I've got a line on a new band for it. Since I want to get the right thing my question is whether all the bands for these 47 Mopar cars were the same size or do I need to measure it?

Also... my car has a stock standard 3 speed, not Fluid Drive and I'd like to know if the clutch disc is a 10" or an 11".

Many thanks in advance for helping me answer these questions!

David

Welcome to the best forum on the internet! Nice to see another D-25 owner on the forum. There are several of us. The band on the handbrake should be pretty standard size. The clutch, unless altered by a previous owner, will be 10". Hope this helps.

Thanks Andy,

I'm really enjoying being here! I got real lucky on this car, it runs like a top and it's a daily driver rain or shine. The guy I got it from did some things I'm not too crazy about ....like cutting off the drip rails (not too smart an idea here in Seattle) so I'm looking around for some vent shades for the windows. And the valances are gone so I'm going to try to make some of those. Overall though it's been very well cared for over the years, it purrs like a kitten and it's one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Thanks for the story and for helping me!

All my best wishes,

David

Dave - Parking brake rebuild is a easy thing for a back yard mechanic (aka like me) to undertake. Here's the thread post for the rebuild I did last summer.

Cheers,

I had my clutch and parking brake redone by tennessee clutch and supply also. They did a great job and was very reasonable...

Wow! Thanks for your generosity here Mark, these photo's will help me a lot! A few months ago I bought a door lock from a guy in St. Louis who has a warehouse full of parts and he has a NOS parking brake lining. (His name is John....he goes by "hiltopap" on eBay) . I should be getting it in a week or two and I'll let you know how it goes. By the way, Ruby's a beauty! If you know where I could find some vent shade window visors like you have please let me know.

Many thanks!

feel pretty certain that the cutting of the drip rail was to try and salvage the body..it would be my guess there could be a great amount of lead..proper body repair, or weld bead, and light fody filler, better body repair or worse case scenario, bondo filling the groove left by the rotted away drip rail..drip rails are a tough area to just patch in..

Dave - I was cruising ebay one day and found these listed for a 1946 Desoto. Body and door frames are very similar so I took a chance and they are a 100% correct fit right down to the wear marks from the locations on the desoto they where removed from. You'll broaden your available parts database if you become more familiar with the interchange on these cars. It was also this way that I found a pair of rear stone guards on ebay. They where listed as 1946 Chevy guards. The fella that listed them said he got them at a swap meet brand new and they would not fit his car. A quick visual reference with another pair listed for a plymouth confirmed what they where and 18$ later they where in my hands. So watch and look beyond the model year and make, there are deals to be had if you do your homework.

Thank you Mark,

opening up my mind to alternative possibilities is sound advice....

Many thanks for your help here,

it's very much appreciated!
