Packed the wife, and (nearly adult) kids into the explorer and took off at noon yesterday for the outer banks of north carolina. Rented a house out here in Salvo for a week of R&R. Most of the drive today was from Dover DE down rt.13 to the Chesapeake bay bridge/tunnel, then on into Virginia and eventually into kitty hawk. This is our third time down here, and the area is just majestic. As beautiful as it is, I am amazed with the destruction that remains from the last hurricane. I don't know how insurance companies can continue to underwrite the homes in this paradise.

Anyhow we passed a '51 Plymouth wagon and a '47 Chrysler sedan along the road side, but i was driving and didn't have the camera ready.:(. Headed home the same route, maybe we'll get a few shots then.

My48Ruby,

Lynn and I spent a week on the Outer Banks a few years ago and agree with you about the beauty of the area. Spent a lot of time at the Wright Museum and went lighthouse hunting along the coast then we explored the inland waters. I was itching for a fishing pole all the time we were there but wouldn't have been able to do anything with whatever I'd caught because we were in a hotel on the beach and not in a cabin.

What do you think of their chowder as opposed to what you get at home? Lynn's from Boston and was very skeptical of anything not capable of floating a spoon being called chowder but ended up loving it.

Enjoy the stay!

Well, as a true new englander, I can attest that what I ate today was clam soup... It was not chowder by any stretch of the imagination. I wouldn't reject it if offered, but wouldn't pay for it again either. But life is short and the world is large. Best to try many things and dislike a few rather than not try at all.
