Jerry Roberts Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Does anyone have an old Autolite catalog ? What does Autolite condenser 2-11 fit ? The 6 cylinder condensers have a different rating than the 8 cylinder models . For mopars w/ 6 cylinders the rating is .25-.28 mfd for years 1940 - 1954 and probably later . Quote

Jerry Roberts Posted February 7, 2012 Author Report Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) Thanks , that was very interesting . I know of a guy that never changed his condenser , when his condenser finally did go bad , he had a heck of a time finding the problem . This same guy said that motor oil was all pretty much the same and he bought the re-refined stuff . This was many years ago . He lived up in the frozen north wisconsin and his oil froze solid . He wondered what had happened and shook a partial can , clunk , clunk . The oil company bought him a new engine . Anyway , if anyone knows what an autolite condenser 2-11 was made for I would like to know . The condensers for the years I mentioned for the 8 cylinder cars are rated for 17-18 mfd' s if I remember correctly . So that is quite a bit of difference , I looked it up in a Motor's Manual . EDIT ; The mfd's for the condensers on all of the mopars 1940 - 1954 are the same , .25 - .28 , including the 8 cylinders . It is the point setting that is different . T120 Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 I think 2-11 may be a Prestolite number.Condensers are cheap. If I required one I would buy a new one Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 I have an autolite catalog that goes from 38-54 and there are no condensors with the 2-11 number. The catalog lists the condensors by the specific number that there were listed on the units. At some point in time Autolite did list some parts by this digit series. I think this condensor is an early part. Contact me: rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
T120 Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) - I googled condenser cross reference and came up with this...I don't guarantee the information as correct. If your condenser is a Prestolite 2-11,according to this chart it looks like it will replace an Echlin AL869... http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=24003 Edited February 7, 2012 by Ralph D25cpe added link Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Old condensers go bad from sheer old age. Even if they have been sitting on a shelf for 70 years. They were made of wax paper and tinfoil. New Mylar condensers are a lot more durable. Quote
