Nabbed a new bug deflector today......

......to replace the one I used to have, that was carried off by the

tornado. It was just sitting on a shelf in the garage at the time,

and left no forwarding address.

It's kind of a loud color, but it might kind of go with the car. Haven't

been able to locate a clear one so far. And the prices being asked

for these things lately have gotten pretty silly. This one, luckily, went

for a more reasonable figure. Doesn't seem to have a propeller, though.

Darn.

I found a replacement propeller at a hobby shop.

The one on the clear deflector had fallen off and I was

going to put on a new prop.

I think I actually found the replacement prop after the

storm, but just don't know where it is at the moment.

I like period knick knacks related to the car.....

Don is correct.......those deflectors claimed to fend off bugs, rain and

snow.......but really were not very effective. You could get them at

auto parts stores, probably filling stations, and I'd bet ol J C Whitney

likely sold a ton of em.

Back then, men liked to dress up their cars with things like fake

portholes, a swan on the hood ornament, mudflaps and all manner

of doodads. Supposed to make your ride look "uptown", "sporty", or

whatever they claimed. Another popular thing was the whitewall

rings for your tires.

Here are a couple other styles of deflectors, as found in a couple

ebay ads......

You can see the deflector in this picture............

And, a few Christmases ago, my son in law gave me that nifty set

of jeweled mudflaps. They were n o s, found down inside the wall

of an old filling station that was being demolished. Still in the original

box.

Guess I'll have to get a beanie..........don't have one of those.:D

I'm thinking you could get a propeller, and then add some gears too, and a way of spinning it from the engine, and provide an extra bit of propulsion to your car.

Okay, not a lot extra propulsion... unless you went to an oversized propeller. And at that point I think they call it a plane... or a meat chopper, not sure which....

I did see one of these that had a tiny motor that spun the propeller very slowly, you would turn it on at a car show I guess.

People still like to "decorate" their new cars like that...fake portholes etc, some so bad/tacky that it looks like JC Whitney threw up on their car.

Some folks even go as far as to add (shutter) fuzzy diceicon13.gif:confused:

O come on now!! What is a matter with fuzzy dice?

I do realize that dressing up cars back in the day isn't any different from today, but I just never seen such a bug deflector. It's different and unique. Nothing wrong with that.

Darren

Not a thing wrong with them except they are hanging in a lot of rice rockets, 95 furds, golf carts, and everyplace they should not be. I have no use for them. Go here.
