Socal48 Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 The clutch pedal on my 48' has no pedal play and it fells like it slips, in searching on here, I read a lot of threads on how to adjust my clutch and want to make sure I understand how it works. The overcenter spring is for helping the pedal come back to it's position and is not for adjusting the clutch, the adjustment screw is the one that connects to the fork and I should loosen the nut turn it counterclockwise till I get about an 1" of play on the pedal, is this correct? The service manual shows a set screw at the bottom of the pedal to set height is this correct? JP Quote
busycoupe Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 I believe you have it correct. I recently adjusted mine the same way and it seems to work well. Perhaps someone else will verify the correct way to adjust it. Dave Quote
MarkAubuchon Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 its pretty simple, just follow the directions in the manual. Adjusting the pedal will not eliminate a "slipping" condition. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 You are correct. For free play adjustment adjust the length of rod 6-24-1 only. Dont mess with the overcenter spring adjustment nor the pedal stop set screw. Quote
Socal48 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 Thanks Don, that exploded view you have posted on several different threads is what helped me figure out what was kinda going on. If I pull the cover off the tranny, is the need for a clutch clearly visible, I mean will I be able too tell if it's trashed or ??? Quote

Only real way to tell if the clutch disc is trashed is to remove it for inspection. This requires removal of the transmission, pressure plate, and disc. Try the adjustment first. Quote
greg g Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 (edited) You can get a peek at the friction disc by removing the sheetmetal bottom cover and have an assistant push down the pedal, you can usually tell thickness if not actual condition of the friction material. You need to make the adjustment that shortens the rod, as with no freeplay the fork is keeping the throwout bearing from fully releasing the fingers of the pressure plate. Socal48 Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 10-4...I'll make the adjustment first and check the clutch as greg suggested and report back. Quote
Socal48 Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 Adjusted the rod today and made a huge difference in the clutch feel...it will keep it going at least till I get to work out a few other bugs. Thanks for the help! Quote
greg g Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Good to hear. Do you have a bit of free play it the pedal?? Quote
Socal48 Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 yup...a bit over an 1", it grabs about half way up and the pedal isn't slamming up either. Quote
