Frank Elder Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 A few shots from the hamb. I've never seen this one before. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 18, 2011 Author Report Posted November 18, 2011 He says it has a flat 6 with a pushbutton tranny.....is that even possible? Quote
greg g Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 56 was the first year of the pushbotton selector, and yes they ran them behind flatheads. My cousin had the setup in a 57 Plymouth. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 Thanks for posting that. What a cool unique vehicle. I'm not a Hamb member-what does the owner intend for it? Quote

greg g Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 here is a link to some technical information and a picture of the trans selector on a right hand drive version. Growing up we lived on a Rural Delivery postal route, Yea we had an RD in our address. When we first mover to the house the postman drove his own vehicle, a pontiac station wagon which he drove from the passenger seat. Musta been an automatic... We did get a guy driving one of those vans till I was in high school. It was a right hand drive model. If you look closely at the picture in the linke page, it appears the push button drive selector is set up for a powerflight (2 peed trans) as it has 4 buttons instead of 5. There was no button for park, there was a lever for the e brake early, and then later for a prawl. That was replaced by a studebaker zip van, then a jeep, and now the guy drives his own car again, a right hand drive subaru station wagon. http://www.allpar.com/squads/jeep-postal-vehicles.html Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 When I was growing up our rural route mail carrier drove a RH Drive International Scout. He actually had two different ones over the years that I remember. Merle Quote
