rjellis5 Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 I am restoring my '48 Plymouth 2-door Special Deluxe and am in need of key blanks since I haven't had a key for many years as the car was not running . However the local lock supplier says that they are not available! It has taken them about 6 weeks to finally tell me this. Does anyone know where I can get key blanks for the original locks? Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 I believe this has been discussed before. Using the forum search I found 49 threads on this subject. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/search.php?searchid=1073975 Quote
plymouthasc Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 It may not help, but was interesting to me... I went to my local locksmith that has been in business for a long time. He made two new keys for me. I was surprised the blanks were original Plymouty keys that had the DCPD logo and the wording "Yale Made in USA for Plymouth." He said it was his last two. You might get lucky too if you check a long established locksmith shop. Quote
busycoupe Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 A couple of years ago I bought key blanks from a guy on E-bay. I'm not sure if this is the same guy, but a quick search turned up a listing for 43-48 mopar ignition keys, another for trunk keys. At $7.95 a blank, the price is a little steep, but it does solve the problem. I hope this link works, if not just search for: Key-Blank-Chrysler-Dodge-Plymouth-Desoto-1943-48. Mark D Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 Bought a pair on eBay for 10 bucks this past February. Came out of Minnesota if I recall correctly. Saw more on their last night. Took them to a small shop near me and had them duplicate the original pair I have as they where looking a little worn and I was afraid of them breaking. Quote
