Hey all, getting ready to pull this 251 engine, it was rebuilt in 1956, it has the matching numbers for a 1946-48 Chrysler Royal, and is full flow oil filtered to boot.

Not sure what I will do with the fluid drive and M5 semi-auto trans, my car currently has a regular clutch and 3 spd trans, would be nice with fluid drive, but it would be much slower than now....

You could put your standard behind the fluid drive and not loose much of anything powerwise and still have the lazy man's drive when you want to cruise.

Fred's 3 speed wouldn't work with the FD without changing the input shaft. The input shaft is longer on FD transmissions. I think the M6 would be cool to have in your car. Why would it be slower? As I understand them you can use low range around town and upshift to high on the road. You shouldn't loose anything, but there's plenty to gain. In my truck with FD/4 speed I find that I can accellerate just as quickly by starting out in 3rd and shifting up to 4th vrs. starting in 2nd and shifting twice to get to 4th. The slight lug initially is made up with one less shift point.

My car was originally equipped with fluid drive and 3 spd trans as most Canuck Royals wee. The cross member was moved, I can move it or another to reinstate a fluid drive if need be.

I have driven these cars with fluid drive and M5 trans, they are real dogs compared to a dry clutch and 3.73 rear end.

I have access to a another 3 spd trans with the longer input shaft, it was from a Dodge...

This engine is for my 47 Chrysler and nothing else. I also have a running 1955 Fargo 1/2 ton engine, it is either a 251 or a 228. That engine is still hooked up to a clutch and trans, it also is on the frame, with front end and diff from some later design.

I have owned it for 4 years, will bring it home this summer. I do not have a 1955 Dodge or Fargo body for it...

Fred,

You could find an old Furd or Chebby body and use the engine to power it as a rat rod. The irony would be killer!

But Randy......................why waste a good engine??:P
