randroid Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Gents, I was sitting on the front seat of Pigiron this afternoon making "vroom vroom" sounds while waiting for my legs to regain circulation when I noticed some letters and numbers stamped on the top rear of the radiator that sort of looked like: DP CD A B 947450 G8 (The G may be an 0 but I can't tell for sure.) What sort of code\whatever is that and what does it mean? My car was built in LA in August, 1947, if that helps but I've no clue if the rad is original. -Randy Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Can you post a sound clip on the vroom-vroom sound? That might help in answering your question. Quote
randroid Posted April 3, 2011 Author Report Posted April 3, 2011 Don, I don't think I have the capability to do that, but we had homemade re-fried beans with dinner last night and the "vroom-vroom" sound previously mentioned was very much like what serenaded us to sleep a few hours later. -Randy Quote
aero3113 Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) The DPCD stands for Dodge,Plymouth,Chrysler and Desoto. Not sure what the others are. Edited April 3, 2011 by aero3113 Quote

louie the fly Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 The numbers might just be a part number, assuming the radiator is original. Own up, how many others of us sit in our car and "pseudo-cruise"? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 And oddly enough Dads mid 60s mopars still have DPCD in a few places years after 1 D had departed. Quote
Big_John Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 And oddly enough Dads mid 60s mopars still have DPCD in a few places years after 1 D had departed. Second "D" stood for Dodge Trucks after Desoto bit the dust. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Own up, how many others of us sit in our car and "pseudo-cruise"? I do, I do!! In fact, right now we are in the middle of a spring blizzard so sitting in my car in a heated garage is about the only way I can enjoy it. I am so sick of winter this year! It just does not want to go away and I even spent a month in Maui getting away from the white s***!. Every day of this crap means there is less spring, summer, and fall before the next round with winter in the Great White North. We haven't even had a decent spring in my part of Canada for the last five or six years. Cold and wet is what we get! Quote
Greenbomb Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 RobertKB- What you said! We don't have it any where near what you guys get, but gray, cold, wet, and windy is getting OLD! I get to work out in it most every day, so i'm ready for some warm, dry sunshine! Plus, I don't have any heat in the shop, nor seats in the car, so I can't even go "vroom, vroom" with out looking REALLY stupid!!! Quote
oldodge41 Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Who needs seats? Vroom vroom sounds can be made at any stage of a project........Tim Quote
TodFitch Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 The 947450 looks like a part number. Agree that the DPCD stands for Dodge,Plymouth,Chrysler and Desoto Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 947450 is a radiator # for 1942-48 Plymouths. Tom Quote
