windsor8 Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 He is a proud little guy with a good looking race car. Congratulations. Quote
randroid Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Niel, That's great! Not just the win but the memories he'll relate someday when he's wearing your shoes, and you were there with him and for him. I have vivid memories of my grandparents on both sides but there's always some seemingly little things about them that always come to mind at the forefront of any memory and I betcha you just created one for him. Well done, sir! Out of curiosity, who suggested the late-Forties\early Fifties Indy car paint scheme? -Randy Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 That is, indeed the car my son and his son were trying to replicate. Unfortunately, I was not there for the race. I only get to Hungary twice a year and thats in December and May for the kids birthdays. Little Evan's Dad, my son, is quite an accomplished modeller and is teaching Evan about how much fun it is to do. You know how a lot of us chose an old car because its something "that my Dad had when I was a little kid"? Well, Evans got his work cut out for him in 15 years he's gonna have to find a 35 year old Wartburg ! Thank you all for indulging me. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 I have a different story when my twin boys were in the cub scouts I became the grandmaster of the pinewood derby race. Now having twins boys meant only one could win but of course I wanted both of them to win (Impossible!!!). But I had an advantage over the other fathers and sons is that I got to take the race track home and tune up there cars! They made there own and still today they are still in the back room. Well I tried and tried to get both cars to run fast but to no avail as only one could win and even having that track set up in my garage my boys still didn't win but no big deal to them it was just the fun of making the cars, painting them and then the race!!!!! I cannot remember the winner but I do remember one boy had a car that was so well built that you could just tell he had little to do with the model and the paint job well it could have put a modern car to shame. Well anyway like I said when you have twin boys in a race car set up one hast to lose and that's hard on a dad that loved them both to death. Quote
