rickyracer1962 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hey guys. I'm working on a 1948 coupe. It was in an accident, and i think the steering column got moved or something and messed up the shift linkage. Can somebody take a picture of their shift linkage coming off the column for me? I need to see what it is supposed to look like compared to mine. My car wont go into reverse or first gear right now. It has a 3 speed overdrive transmission from i think a 1951 Chrysler. It all worked before the accident. Has anybody ever converted one of these to a floor shift? thanks for any help! RIck Quote
greg g Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 you will get more responce posting this to the regular discusion board. The first and reverse shift is on the same lever and chances are it just needs some adjustment to lengthen the throw to engage the gears fully. Or the busings where the rods meet the column levers are ovaled out (these are replaceable). there should be enough adjustment on the linkage to make up for some slop whether for wear or moderate misalignment of the column. rickyracer1962 Posted February 15, 2011 Author Report Posted February 15, 2011 okay didnt realize i was posting in the wrong place thanks! i just posted over there. i dont think its an adjustment issue, or bushing issue. i think the levers on the top of the column are bent somehow. Quote
