Plymouthy Adams Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 my only complaint is that every time this is viewed..they are not using another 1959 chevy... Quote
48Dodger Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 my only complaint is that every time this is viewed..they are not using another 1959 chevy... Maybe that's the point of this test. The chances of a 59' hitting another 59' on the streets today are very unlikely. Maybe the insurance companies needed to know how the old cars fair in a modern world enviroment of airbags and newer crush technologies. 48D Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Ya except for the facts that they picked a car with a horribly designed frame, seem to have aimed the 09 chevy to intentionally miss the frame all together, and the car appears to be a junkyard relic they fixed up that emits a cloud of rust when crashed. 48Dodger Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Good call on the rust cloud Ed.....but isn't that more represenitive of what's being driven on a daily basis? Beaters and rust buckets that some people put together to save money and for fun? I'm sure the insurance companies are trying to prove that ins. rates for classic rides should be a lot higher than they are right now..... 48D Quote
PatS.... Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 I'm not quite sure the point of this demo. As was stated, the X frame was a disaster, and the 59 Chevy's are just about all gone. Is it to debunk "they don't make 'em like that anymore" crowd? Why? They don't...and that's a fact. And they won't. So why do this demo? I think they had some extra money in the budget and wanted to have some fun and it's got no more meaning than that. Rich people wasting their money. Now, if they tried that with a 48 Chrysler New Yorker... Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted February 11, 2011 Author Report Posted February 11, 2011 1958 is the same chassis of 1959(X) Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 they got the x frame as they still did not know how to build a driveshaft Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 I have seen this video, and have heard different slants on it's creation. I do tend to believe, my 47 Chrysler should hold up better ina crash. Maybe I am wrong on this..... Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Fred as someone who unintentionally put his 48 plymouth against a F150 I will tell you I feel I came out better then that 59 chev. I will tell you the F150 still traveled about 150ft and turned about 200° of a circle. Quote
