I am down south in Victoria and OK.

To give you an idea of the size of the area flooded, on the news they said it is equal in size to the whole of France and Germany combined. Roger.

For the non Euro-centric, I heard on our news that it was larger than the state of Texas... Hard to imagine that.

Watching the news tonight approx 315,000 sq miles is flooded in some way with more rain to come.

Texas is approx 265,000 sq miles.

I use to live in one of the areas suffering with the flood. My bed would now be 20 feet under water. Glad I`m not there.

On the subject of floods the size of Texas. 2 or 3 years ago inland Australia had its biggest flood in about 50 years. Coverd more area than 2 x Texas.

I have rellies in Kurrimine Beach in Queensland. Have not been able to get a response from them as to whether they are affected. They are about 3 blocks from the ocean.

Other rellies in Edmonton, Innisfail and Cairnes. They seem to be OK so far.

My shop is 200 metres from the levee wall, the floor at the height of the base of the wall(!) & the flood peaked yesterday at 7.70 against a 8.10 wall........nice & close........I moved all the model stock from the storeroom to home , on the hill, and lifted the shop model stock, books were next..........the Clarence rivers falling now albeit slowly tho' still to peak downriver.......lots of interesting things float by........watched a 2' baby brown snake clamber up the levee wall steps yesterday arvo, beautiful animal but decided against helping him as he probably wouldn't have appreciated it and I didn't want to die.......lol.................anyway today is bringing stock down from up high in the shop...........we had a pretty mundane flood compared to that in Queensland, they copped a real hiding, not pretty at all...........regards, andyd

Nah, could fill the shop with r/c and still not have the right stuff, used to have some but got sick of people complaining that they could buy some cheap crap copy for $3.50 at the local junk shop or ebay rather than Tamiya R/C which I used to stock and is dearer, repairable & has spares................so I don't have R/c , they still come in and whinge about this cheap crap but now I can say, "Nope, can't help you as I have NO r/c" .......train guys are the same.........so I have plastic cars, trucks & planes............see the website www.scaleautomobilia.com.au also check the "Models We Have Made" & "About Us" links ..........andyd

Ah good old Tamiya. I built a clodbuster for a coworker a long time ago. 4x4 monster truck with 4 wheel steering. Lots of fun. Most of my stuff is 1:10 scale team associated. I understand the issue as the hobby shops here have many rows and rows to support all the parts etc.

Hi guys - its been ages since I posted on the forum, sorry. I've been 'lurking' all the while, but just seem to haven't had much to add. And have been busy.

I'm up in Cairns - we're all fine up here, notwithstanding the fact we had a small Cyclone (Hurricane) blow through this way on Christmas morning....

The floods have been devastating in QLD.

(AndyD - I'm so glad to hear you're okay there by the river in NSW.)

(PatS... - your relatives in Edmonton & Cairns are right where I am, and I often travel past Kurrimine Beach in my job - I have relatives down that way too. They will all be safe and sound).

I'm an Insurance Assessor, so your's truly is now gearing up for 1 or 2 'tours of duty' down in Southern QLD for the insurance companies. Its going to be a very, very busy time for us.

The extent of the losses are enormous, but the thing is there is only limited flood coverage on many policies, so its going to be a heartbreaking task more often than not. I'd much rather tell someone they're covered and do as much as I can to help, than to have to deliver bad news about no insurance coverage.... :-(

I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone on the forum a belated Happy New Year and I hope its a brings some success and prosperity for all. Even though I haven't been active, I'm still very much involved!

Take care all

Rob - Cairns, OZ.
