Is this the correct jack for my '49?

This jack came with my '49 Coronet, but I haven't been able to determine if this is the correct jack for that year. It has a smooth round shaft rather than the usual square ones with the notches. Any ideas what year or make this is for?jack2r.jpg

Don't think so, seems that is from an earlier year. The bumper hook will not likely fit you bumper. Just looking at that creeps me out. Please don't even consider using it.

LOL - I have no intention of using it. In fact, I'll probably sell it. I do think it's strange that there are no notches on the shaft. Apparently it holds up the vehicle by pressure. You wouldn't catch me under a car with that jack holding it up :)

Maybe it's a novelty jack, like fake dog pooh... only more tragic.

I used to always comment that the post and plate bumper jacks were made by the toy companies after their busy Christmas season was over and they needed something for the factories to produce.

Given the crap we get in this country from our Asian trading partner, maybe this was one of their first exports to us years ago. :-)

Oh, if we only knew then what we know now!

I have both a '49 Dodge and a '49 Plymouth. The jacks do not look like that. They have the square post with notches.

VW used to supply jacks something like that. Back in high school I had a '66 VW bus. It came with a jack that used friction clamps on a smooth post. I don't think that it looked like the one in the picture. It's been a lot of years, but I seem to remember it had a round, cast metal base. I never liked the looks of it, I used a scissors jack.

The photo of the tools for the 46-48 Plymouth looks just like the jack in both my '49 Dodge and the Plymouth.
