oldodge41 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Good video. As a young fellow I entered a demo derby once in a "65 Plymouth Belvedere. I finished second to a 67 Pontiac Bonneville that was bigger than a house, or so it seemed. For the next derby a local car dealer gave me a car, a Chevy to run with their name on it. I was playing around on the racetrack before the nights events and blew the thing up. Dang Chevy. Thus ended my derby driving career. LOL Quote
aero3113 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Good video,I guess I missed that when it aired on Discovery. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks that was fun and brought good memories back to me! A friend and I got together back in the late 60's and ran a 50 Lincon. It was a tank but befor we brought it to the race track for the first time we painted it a navy gray. Now it being painted that color was no big deal, it was where we painted it!!! He brought it to work one day and at lunch we just decided to spray paint it in one of the alleys in the Shipyard! We did get caught and were asked what we were doing by some big wig and all we could say was "What's it look like were painting a car!" I remember the forman saying well just don't do it again. Oh yes that paint well it just so happen to be hull paint used for our navy ships. Just fun!! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 not calling names but what you did would be too easy..vehicle gets driven onto the elevator, lifted a few floors up, then driven to the water wall booth..sprayed, baked in a drive in oven and taken home later that same day..the good ole days are gone.. Greenbomb Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Don; I was on the Kittyhawk (CVA 63). We were in dry dock in Bremerton, WA for over haul. Early 1970 it came time to test catapults. Still in drydock with bow toward the water they began. They have regulation test loads that are big barge looking things with wheels that float. They shot off several of those then came the fun: they shot off a '61 Pontiac and a '52 Plymouth. They looked just like the plymouth in your pictures! Doors flapping, odd angles and over they go and land on their tops! That was in Puget Sound! Can you imagine the stink that would go up these days?!?! It was a different world then. Quote
