greg g Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 The city police here used these (but later models) even into the winter with tire chains till the early 60's for traffic, accident responce, neighborhood patrols, and parking enforcment. Quote

Big_John Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Also want one in my garage. Says Crashler but is it a Harley? Looks like an early thirties Harley. Quote
807kirby Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Harley Servicar!! My dad had a couple of these!! They made them up untill the late 60's or early 70's!! Quote
mackster Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 those are neat! i want too in my wish list! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 given the realibility of these old Harleys.,..good thing this was at a Chrysler dealership where there would be fewer needs for replacement parts chasing..would think it it is kinda like today where the owner took a business write off on his new found toy by linking it to the business decent looking setup...I believe most folks would appreciate one of these... busycoupe Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I think the servicars were meant to be used to pick up and deliver customers cars. The curved piece attached to the front wheel folded down to hook onto the rear bumper of a car. The rider could pick up a car, hook the servicar to the rear bumper and tow it back to the shop. It saved having an extra man to make pick ups and deliveries. Quote
Edward Roberts Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Insulate that back compartment, throw in some frosty refreshments, sell 'em at the bike show for $5 a throw... it'd pay your entry fee. (Static display, of course, unless you left it on the trailer you brought it in on and towed it around the grounds.) Quote
busycoupe Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I've seen a couple of these at local bike shows, running, not static, and they didn't come in on trailers. They run pretty well, but not too fast. They have a 45 ci. flathead engine, kick start. They occasionally show up on our local craigslist for sale, but usually over $10k. Too rich for me. Quote
807kirby Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 like i said earlier they made them for quite awhile, even with the shovel head motors which would have be fairly reliable!! Used them for all kinds of jobs, Military and otherwise!! Quote
martybose Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 A looooong time ago, while I was in high school, a buddy of mine bought an ex-meter reader Harley trike. It had a nice plexiglass windshield mounted to the handlebars, and the left hand grip twisted to retard the ignition so it was easier to start. I went over to my buddy's house to see his purchase, and he decided to show me how easy it started. But he forgot to twist the left grip to retard it, and tried to kick it over. Just as he hit the bottom of the kick starter travel it backfired, and tossed him over the windshield onto his front lawn. We laughed about that for a long time ....... Marty Quote
