Mike@DRH Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 My wife just can't see the beauty in a new truck like my son and I do. It's a little over due on the oil change. (9-7-63) Quote

Reg Evans Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 My wife just can't see the beauty in a new truck like my son and I do. Just tell her that as soon as you get it up and running you are going to take her shoe shopping in it. She might even help just to speed up the process ;) Quote
Young Ed Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Awesome Mike. We need to have a MN get together! Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 that candidate gets my vote for a full restoration! Hank Quote
41/53dodges Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 i dunno, the patina looks nice to me! Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 was that truck from somewhere like Nevada or Arizona where it was photographed against some rust colored mountains. The brown patina of the truck just said "I've been here all my life" Most patina (like my old B3B was in it's former life as an old roofing truck) looked more like neglect and decay and disrespect. When I look at my shiny new/old 51, I think how lucky I was to be able to restore it to better than new condition. I understand Patina but see it as the enemy. I know it's just me...but, I'd rather just use spray cans like I did the first restore around. O.K. Show me the Patina! Hank Quote
Mike@DRH Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 I got this one from the original owner in Egan, Minnesota. All I really wanted was the hood emblem, he said "you can buy the hood emblem but it comes with a truck". Pretty far gone, not worth the total restore but I'll use some of the parts for my other truck. My son wants the sheet metal for his "Rusto Mod" he wants to build. We use simpler terms to decribe our "Rust Buckets" (Before I could respond to the last post I had to pull out the dictionary and look up "patina", lol.) Quote

Mike@DRH Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 Yes Eagan, (I need to learn how to spell) It's been sitting for so long out behind his house two of the wheels are locked up. The local squirrels are mad they now are homeless (they didn't want to move to Hastings I guess). Your probably familiar with the area. It was on Cliff just west of Rich Valley. You probably didn't want this one under your nose anyway. It's no treasure so your not missing out on much but the price was right. Mike Quote

Besides I JUST got my project to the point I can pull my driving vehicle in the garage again, I wouldn't want ANOTHER one taking up space! As for the squirrels, I'm waging a private war against them in my yard....why is it when you get rid of 4, 8 show up for the funeral? Quote

Merle Coggins Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) You need to build yourself one of these contraptions. Edited October 22, 2010 by Merle Coggins Quote
Mike@DRH Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 I told a neighboring farmer we had an unusual amout of Opposum around our farm. He says "Spade em", I say, "your kidding, right"? He says "nope, use a #2 round nose spade with a 58" handle, works really good". I say "Ahhhhh, I get it". (He can't spell either) Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Hank Leave it to you Merle...That's sick... Edited October 22, 2010 by HanksB3B Quote
Dennis_MN Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 Not sick, entertaining. One year I almost bought a electric fence controller to attach to my bird feeder hook. My plan was to get the little bastard when he was stretched over between the grounded pole and the insulated bird feeder, then zap and watch him fly. Never did it and lost interest until now. Last week I bought a simple corn cob holder to feed the poor little rodents and they figured out how to steal the entire cob on the first day. Now I have a nail going through it to prevent it until they figure something else out. Yesterday they were working on my attachment so it won't be long. Winters get long up here with no truck to work on or to drive. Quote
