Next project. Flathead 6 FED.

So the run to Vantage for the flathead reliability run was a great time. All the way until the sound of death about 40 miles from home. Guess my motor was a bit too much and it spun 4 rod bearing. Was able to get it home, but the bottom end was completly trashed. Needless to say, that was the final straw with that damn P-15 and now im working on selling it.

Which brings me to my next point of interest. I needed another project. I was looking around the shop thinking, what next. Then it hit me like a brick. I had a pair of cheaters off my hotrod, a 49 plymouth rearend, a 54 motor and tranny, a 36 ford axle with spindles, and a moon tank. Can anyone say mockup?

I see no point of building a dragster without power. Waste of time and money to me, if it doesn't scare you it's not fast enough. FEDs are awesome but I'm in doubt with the fun factor with 100hp.

I think you may be surprised how, maybe not scary, but thrilling a ride that would/could/will be. Building a car from that state then racing it, was one of the huge thrills in my life. Watch this:

Its a chevy 6, and even though it was probably only putting out 125hp or so, It was quite a ride getting to 60mph in a tenth of a mile!

Dynaflash--You're gonna need a taller gear than that 4.11 if you want to go 100mph. You'd need to be turning 47-4800. That'd probably spin all 6 bearings!

Tim--I agree.

No way, I think you are going to have a ton o fun with it:DIt is the swearing on a family oriented forum that I don't care for. We try to leave religion, politics, and profanity off of these boards.

Have you decided what to do with the carcass off your tormentor yet?

Well the 47 is up for sale. I got somebody interested in it i think. Im askin $1500 for the car without the motor and tranny. Good deal for someone who wants it.

personally I think it is time you do one project and do it right the first time..

What do you mean?

I put the 47 together for the flathead run, not as a keeper. Now that its over, i have no interest in it anymore. The motor, however toasted, i still do.

I built my Nash from a car not worthy of its scrap price into somthing i drive almost daily.

I also helped my brother out on his 53' merc. I lowered it and bought him tires for christmas. I also did the exhaust on it and all the go fast goodies oh the motor.

Im also working on a car for a fella, doing a motor/tranny swap for a 55 poly and 5 speed, plus an 8-3/4 rearend. Then its a full re-wire and disk brakes. Im still waiting on parts to drop the mill.

I do cars right. The plymouth not so much, but it made it 360 miles and home under power didnt it? I didnt wanna soak too much money into the thing because i knew i didnt wanna keep it.

If im passionate about a project or its someone elses that they're footing the bill, the final product is "right"

Im so sick of hearing from people how i ruin cars, or i should finish them better, or my paint sucks, or blah blah blah. Quite frankly, i dont give a d***. ( there ya go frankie ;) ) Because im out there on the road with a car im not afraid to get dirty and i beat the you know what out of. Why? Because i stand for cars that are ment to be driven, not hidden from society in a garage or on a trailer.

So if you say i dont do cars "right", well then im perfectly happy ruining old cars.

dynaflash_8,

I think you got the short end of the stick on this post and I'm sorry that you received the responses you did because I don't think you deserved them. It has been said many times here that it's your car and you can do with it whatever pleases you but evidently, when push comes to shove, not everyone feels that way.

I needed to re-read your original post to find your offensive swearing because taken it its context I didn't notice it the first time through. While I heartily agree that swearing, politics, and religion should be left off this forum I do not agree that this is a 'family' forum. We cover topics rarely discussed around the dinner table and the third-grader who takes a bent con rod to show-and-tell will doubtfully be able to explain what it is. I have yet to notice any clowns, elephants, balloons or calliopes getting much mention lately either. We don't swear, we don't discuss porn, and the only criticism we make of each other is a soft play on names or questioning how far, in feet, any particular was driven last year, but we're not playing a kid's game here and we're not playing by kid's rules. We're not playing with kid's money, either, and I must feel that kids of all breeds should be included in our posts but this is an adult's forum and should be respected as such.

It is your time and energy, do what you like. One of my projects is a replica dirt track race type car. I have a 37 Coupe body, 38 chassis, 56 Flathead engine, 5 speed Ranger trans, 16" rear truck tires, wide 12 inch tires/wheels for the front. Grand kids will paint it for me. I do not have a "Moon" fuel cell, but I have a 1 gallon beer can, should look cool  up front......

i had to read your post several times till i finally noticed the word d**n. not all that offensive to me, but i respect the wishes of the forum to keep it as clean as possible. i actually like that about this forum. at first i thought the profanity objection was a joke referring to the word ford. i like the dragster project. would love to see it run and would love to drive it. yeah, we can do what we like with our cars. the thing i hate to see is to take a perfectly good and well preserved car and ruin it by turning it into something very different. original unrestored cars are getting rarer every day and actually are going up in value. there are so many beat up cars available for projects that i think the well preserved ones should be left alone, or just modified enough to allow them to be driven. i do recognize that a good clean car will cost less to make a project, so that is another side to that discussion. in the end, i still side with the fact that it is your car and you are the captain of that ship. good luck with the dragster. capt den

If you are goig to expend the time effort and expense of putting a dragster together, why not use the items you have to build a HA/GR style car with in the rules posted on the HAMB, then you would have a build that is raceable in a recognized class, and have a community of builders to bounce ideas off of. There is a bunch of stuff on building flat 6's for that class..

Have fun with what you got.

i was thinkint somthing along the lines of HA/GR, but i dont like the rule that the driver has to be in front of the rearend. Somthing about cars like the masters dragmaster http://www.mooneyes.com/news/030/IMG_5860.jpg just are what its all about. I also have a picture of the Rex Rains flathead 6 dragster from the March 1961 issue of Speed Mechanics that really gave me the idea.
