ggdad1951 Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 so, a few presents showed up today over lunch at my house! My new springs came in from Eaton! Now, originally, on these trucks were they painted or left au natural? I can clear coat them, but I wonder if the flexing of the springs will just flake off any coating? as a second question: were the front axle, drag link and tie rod painted or left bare? Quote

Dave72dt Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Something you might try is a product called Slip-plate. Kind of charcoal gray in color, can be brushed or spray bombed on, gets slicker with use as the material slides over it polishes and smoothes it. Farmers used it a lot on gravity boxes to help high moisture grain slide out. It should also help the spings slide on top of each other as they flex giving a smoother, more comfortable ride. What's correct as far as orignal goes, haven't a clue, but I'd guess natural. Quote

Dave72dt Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 everyone talking spring paint and its not even decent fall weather yet...! The last few days have been great fall weather for me and am starting to get some fall paint on the trees. As far as paint paint goes, the boy is coming down from the Cities today to work on his project car ( "70 Cad sedan de ville ) and put some primer on it. When that's got color and clear, my truck can make it's way back into the garage for welding, grinding, primer, blocking, welding grinding, primer, welding.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 we had a 4 day run of cool mornings, nice clear low humidity days before it jumped back to the low 90's again....I am busy about the yard, garage and out doors..not much getting done on the cars but arranging stuff so to make it a bit more work friendly..am putting all my woodworking stuff in a single detached building..get it out of the weld-grind-sand-dust enviroment..once that is done..I'm going to have to straighten out the barn..still got lots of the daughters left behind when they moved to England to deal with..then my other outbuilding has some of her larger appliances..just flat gotta get a grip on this stuff..I need my space back..got a few more LBC's to get put in the dry..
