Seems like it is getting to the right time of year to start making that old list. No, not the Christmas list. The list of things on the old car(s) that should be addressed over the winter.

I've got a leaky right rear outer axle seal. So that will start my list.

As long as I'm working on that, the wheels are looking pretty scruffy what with paint chips and all. So maybe they should be cleaned and powder coated.

And I'd rather not re-attach those ugly wheel weights on freshly refinished wheels, so maybe those balance beads would work.

And if the wheels and at least one drum is off, might as well see if I can come up with a set of standard or near standard size drums....

And that is working on the brakes, so maybe I should install the correct original master cylinder that is sitting on the shelf ready for installation.

But if I am breaking open the hydraulic system, maybe I should go ahead and pull the engine (which on my car means pulling the bolt in cross member that holds the rear mounts and the master cylinder) and see about fixing that leaky front crank seal....

Hmmm. Wonder where I'll get the time for all that if the ski season is half decent....

Plenty of time to think about all that on the 470 mile round trip drive in the old Plymouth to the region meeting on Saturday...

Anyway, what are you planning on fixing/upgrading over the winter?

My list will have to be for next spring/summer (too cold to work on it in winter). Need to do something with my gas tank (repair/clean or replace), patch floors, new door panels, and install turn signals. I also have a right rear axle seal that is leaking. Hope to get that fixed before the car is parked for winter.

OR it gets foggy!!!! With our high winter humidity, it actually gets quite uncomfortable in Jan and Feb. Hope to get the brakes done, but not certain.

I always have a list of things to do for the 50 Plymouth, it seems.

Immediate: One rear window is down and won't roll back up.

Repair leaking rear main oil seal.

Use something else instead of duck tape to seal the heater box to bulkhead connection.

Replace gaskets in carb to stop fuel seepage leak.

Fix exhaust manifold heater valve.

Install seat belts in the rear seats.

Bleed brakes again. Pedal is a little soft.

BUT NO, instead, I will probably install my brand new gear shift lever on the Mopar Torqueflight automatic transmission in my 47 Plymouth coupe.

All I have to do is change the heading at the top of my summer list

to fall. Haven't gotten much of anything on the first list accomplished

yet.

I was thinking that my car had lots of problems that I need to deal with, but I feel better about it now that I read your to-do lists. My list is a lot like yours, but the car is running. When the sun is out and it is not too cold, there is nothing like cruising down a country lane with windows open and vent open. I think that I will work down the list when the mood strikes.

Here is my list,

- #1 pay DodgeB4ya, for much needed parts

- install new headliner and windlace, insulation first.

-remove radio, it is being repaired by old time repairman

-install door weather stripping, and front window weather strip

-rearend pinion seal

-install rear motor mounts

-new u-joints

-inspect and adjust brakes

-re-adjust parking brake

- front and rear bumpers rechromed

- powder coat rims read, and new WW tire(yah like that is going to happen)

-make and install partition panel, and correct rubber mat for trunk

-repair and paint steering wheel

-have exhaust redone again, have a slight leak up front

and no doubt many more items, I acnnot remember, at this time.

If I get some of this done, which I will, it will make the list smaller, in my case, it is not a case of time and energy, it is of dollars and sense...........Fred

Ok now that you start this whole work ethic for all of us over the winter, here is what I need to do on the 39 Desoto:

Work on the driveshaft possibly new u joints

Get the front floor carpet made and installed

Put the car up on the lifts and adjust all four brakes, minot adjustment

Take heater out to see why the fan motor is not working

Have a dim front right headlight, possibly a grounding issue.

Put in a pint of rust inhibitor int to the radiator.

Fill that gas tank an put in fuel stableizer

Check the antifeeze level and see if I need to add more

Attend the AACA Convention in Phila, PA in February

Continue to look for Miller tools and parts for the old car

And most important is trying to get a full time job since I have been unemployed so until this happens the above list is put on the big freeze.

Hope eveyone enjoys the fall and might see some people at Hershey next month.

Install fender extentions and grill shell and stainless I picked up a few years ago.The others were damaged a long time ago. Try to make up some door panels. Headliner, Etc, Etc, Etc, Blah, Blah,Blah:cool:

As we get actual winter here(no offense to the CA guys but I'd probably get a lot more stuff done if I had that kinda winter weather) my car and truck go into storage and I don't see them for about 5months. I'll have to do something with my still messed up speedometer for the plymouth and I keep thinking I'll send a wiper motor for it off to wiperman one winter and have it ready to go in the spring. If it was here and available I'd probably pull the manifolds and put in my new heat riser setup.

Frankie, thanks for the picture of the snow, now I am cool enough to go back outside and finish what I was doing in the 95 degree day. Winter here is a fridged 50 degree days and 'maybe' a frost or two.

For the '55:

Replace rockers,

Sheet metal repairs on pass. door and rear wheel arches

reinforce the the door pillars at the base,

Continue to drive.

For the A:

Rebuild the 230

go through the brakes

Re-angle the pedals

figure out how to make it stop rattling

finish the patch panels

Look forward to spring.

Just go up the hill a little bit from where Reg lives and you can have nice deep snow into April or May. There is a reason the mountains were named Sierra Nevada (Spanish for "snowy mountain range").

See you're still cheating. My property that I own and live will look like that. No traveling up the hill. And FYI 26 is pretty decent. Wait for -26 then its cold.
