pflaming Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I remember building my own model airplanes. What was difficult, for me, was to carve a propeller that worked!!!. Most of my toys were homemade, had to use some imagination. "The worst of times, the best of times." A friend's dad was a carpenter and he would cut out circles for my friends cars and tractors, I really envied him, I had to find jar tops! In the one picture the horses are pulling the harrow and the tractor was discing, interesting picture of changing times. Quote
1940plymouth Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Not to change the subject, but my Grandfather used a team of horses until around 1959 or 1960 with a dump rake to rake up the scatterings of hay that the baler would leave, then that would get baled up. He bought his first tractor, a Farmall H in 1945, baler in 1957, but hated to give up the horses. Even when they went to milking machines, he would hand strip every cow after the machines were taken off. He would go to the barn every night before he went to be with a latern to check on the cows, wouldn't use the electric lights. He basically did that until shortly before he passed away at 83 in Feb of 1973. He was a good man. Just couldn't give up the old ways, just my thoughts:) Quote
