Powerhouse Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) Here's a little something I put together with all the info i could scrounge..some of my own research..and a lot from the great guys on this forum. I did not use the method 1 or 2...I set the gap with the oil pan off...so I could see the cam lobes....and then checked it while running. Anyone ever used method 1 successfully? I tried it a few times and can never get good results from it. Setting cold with pan off according to valve/cam location...or setting hot wile running seem to be the only good ways. Niel Hoback Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Thank you very much Powerhouse. That is great. Too bad its not the clear in the shop manual. A copy of that under the hood while I'm trying to adjust valves will make it much easier. Pure genius. Quote
Powerhouse Posted June 28, 2010 Author Report Posted June 28, 2010 Thanks! I just wanted to help anyone out if I could...this forum is great. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Wow. Nice job. A technical tips classic. But this certifies you as an old car geek through and through. Can't go back now, you're way gone. And you're in the right place. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Yeeha is right. I'm right with ya. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 GTK should add this to the tech tips section. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 now there's something that's going on the wall in the garage, right next to the car for the next adjustment! thanks a lot! Quote

Joe Flanagan Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 If you're referring to the stage A/stage B method in the technical archives, no, I haven't had luck with it. For some reason, they have you adjusting the intake valve (I think) for cylinder 2 twice. I wound up having trouble with that particular valve afterwards. I ended up adjusting them with the engine running. Quote
Powerhouse Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 yeah...that was flawed. The info on the chart I made is similar, made according to cam lobe location....so no repeat. Quote
