BobT-47P15 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Another e mail item........sounds cheap and easy........wasp spray does indeed shoot out a large stream for a fair distance. I know some of you own GUNS, but this is something to think about... If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before. Wasp Spray !!! A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead. The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use. On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life. Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School . For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed. Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out.." Maybe even save a life. Please share this with all the people in your life Did you also know...wasp spray will kill a snake? --------------------------------------------------------------- Keep your car keys with the fob for unlocking the doors near the bed.. If you hear someone breaking into the house, push the panic button so the car will make lots of noise and flash the lights. You can also do this in a parking lot. Hope you don't mind reading this stuff......if you've seen it before, just ignore it. I think it has some merit in today's world. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Very good idea Bob. That stuff really does spray a long distance and is accurate. I have to spray the overhangs and under the peak of the 2 story part of my house every year and it's dead on even at the peak. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 When I was in high school I worked summers at the post office and there was a mail carrier who, legend had it, was once attacked by a dog. He took out his spray (known as "Doggie Halt") and prepared to defend himself. Unfortunately, as the story goes, he had the thing turned around the wrong way and shot himself in the eyes with it. And to go along with the burning pain in his eyes, he enjoyed the added bonus of the dog shredding his pant leg. Sounded like a local legend to me at the time. Probably was. Quote
teardrop puller Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 I bought wasp spray for all my single neighbors last time I was in the US. Guns are illegal here, only the bad guys and the cops have them. kai Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 16, 2010 Author Report Posted June 16, 2010 Hey......you're welcome. It was in one of the many forwarded emails we receive most every day. Just found it interesting and hopefully useful. Quote
Flatie46 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Thanks good info, I've found that Gunk Foamey engine bright is the best thing for wasps I've ever seen. If you shoot the nest with it, they get caught up in all that foam and can't fly. Plus when it get's on 'em they just flat drop and die! Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 What I have learned. Sitting in my garage I observed a mud daubber hovering around my Spitfire head. This daubber then entered a water jacket hole and disappeared for a few minutes then emerged and flew off. After another few minutes this dauber re-appeared and entered the same hole. A light bulb went off in my head. I took inventory of the stuff on my workbench. Found an aerosol can of carburetor cleaner. I took aim at the hole and as soon as the daubber was in sight I fired away. The daubber backed into the hole and never again has been seen even after I turned the head upside down and violently shook it. I also gave the head a sort of good air blow and nothing came out. I will flush this head with water prior to installation . Second test was easy. Another dauber landed on my garage floor a couple days later. I once again took aim and nailed him. He never flew again as the carburetor cleaner knocked him out cold. Quote

I do like the smell though, shame they don't have carb cleaner glade air freashener. Quote

PatS.... Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 As is my habit now, I checked Snopes to see what they have to say. http://www.snopes.com/crime/prevent/waspspray.asp Quote
teardrop puller Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 looks to me that the snopes is trying to protect the criminal more than the victim. WoW, imagine that. kai Quote

Brad Lustig Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. If someone is attacking me or my family, I won't really be concerned about being humane. Quote

Flatie46 Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Recently there was a couple of home invasion robberys in town. During one a woman knocked on the door and as the homeowner was walking to the door he could see two guys standing out in his yard through the blinds, he asked what she wanted. She said she had ran out of gas and needed to use the phone. Just out of suspicion he put his pistol in his back pocket. When he opened the door the two guys rushed in on him drawing there guns. The homeowner pulled his a little quicker shot and killed one on the spot, the woman was killed in the crossfire. The other guy was wounded turned up at the hospital later and died from his wounds. The sheriff said, "His actions probably saved his life and his family, it's clear self defence". After this and the other home invasion robberys I will not answer the door without my pistol. Me and the wife both have a permit and it's rare we don't carry. This guy had been on a TV show not too long ago "The worlds strictest parents". Quote
Mustang6147 Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 I have something that will knock a dog out, or drop a bad guy a 600 yards, while my family is enjoying a BBQ or sleeping soundly. Quote
