1950 Special Deluxe Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 I am installing Natural Gas to my garage so I can heat it and more easily work on my car during our winter. Gas fitter is coming Monday so I need to be ready, we have had over 3 inches of rain this week. I have to lift some patio blocks tomorrow to finish the trench to be ready, but it will be worth it this winter when I can flip a switch and work comfortably on the car. I seem to prefer to do things the hard way. Quote
1just4don Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 dig a trench out from there and wash next size PVC pipe big enough to run gas line THRU it,,quick and easy and no block disturbed, are you using buried copper? Quote
1950 Special Deluxe Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 My gas fitter is going to use plastic with fused connections at each end and then threaded pipe where it is exposed. Thought about using a pressure water gun but trying to do it on the cheap and my labor is free. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 That's some GREEN grass. Here in Florida my lawn's mostly sand and the sun burns it. Quote
1just4don Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 make sure pvc pipe is big enough for fittings to go thru. take a hose inside the required length of distance pvc and tap it thru with a hammer after water washes dirt back thru pvc,,,its faster than you think. if its big diameter sharpen the end in so it cuts and throws dirt inward,,,in other words scrape with a knife etc inside edge away on leading end of pipe and use wood 2 bye 4 to prevent cracking of pipe,,push and pound when it goes easy,,not when hard. put his plastic pipe right thru yours Quote
Brad Lustig Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 1justfordon has the right idea. You could actually go underneath a driveway if you needed to. Much easier to do that than to get your pavers level and tight again. Instead of beating the pvc through the ground, you can wash it through with a low pressure stream of water hooked up to the pvc. PatS.... Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Things have changed. Way back in the late 60's my dad ran gas to his garage and the gas company insisted on 4 feet deep! Guess who got the honor of the dig??? It was only about 12 feet long but it was hard work and no beer at the end!!! Quote
