mikemaker Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Anyone know where I can get rear shoes for the beater P15? Also, I have one rear brake spring that's gone bad. None of the local joints have a clue, I was hoping to not have these relined as it my only car right now and I can't really afford to have it be out of commission while I wait for the shoes to be relined. Any suggestions? Quote
mikemaker Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Anone have a pic. of a proper rear brake return spring for a p 15. I don't think mine are right and may be contributing to my brake woes. Pics. please and if anyone has an extra, I'll more than willing to buy one. Quote
randroid Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Andy B. has the springs. http://www.oldmoparts.com -Randy Quote
Young Ed Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Mike The proper springs have the hooks floating in the spring part. They can move independent of the actual spring. I had to buy mine from Roberts I think. None of the local shops could come close enough. I thought I'd have a pic from all my work but couldn't find one. Quote

Here's what the return springs look like on my 40 Plym. I have a spare if you need one. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Here's what the front ones look like on my P15. In second pic-- of rear wheel-- the spring is lying down in the orange tub.....looks pretty much like the front one. Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 I upgraded to new springs from Roberts and the old ones looked like the new ones. If you have none you may have these for postage. I think I have old pads that you may also have for postage to be relined if needed at your leisure. Frank Quote
De Soto Frank Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Reg, Are those your new "full-legnth" relined shoes ? (Those linings look really thick...) Frank Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Yes they are Frank. I was worried that they wouldn't allow me to get the virgin drums (never been turned)back on but they did. The cylinders and new lines are still dry so I hope that after I pump everything back up that they will stay retracted from the drums. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Jeez Mike, I was on the road this week and just now reading some of these messages. I'm leaving for Fla early tomorrow (Saturday) but I have a complete 50 rear end with the shoes and springs still on it. I also have a 50 front end in pieces with the brake assemblies intact. You can scavenge all you want. The shoes could probably get you by until you get yours relined or replaced. Can you possibly wait a week until I get back? Quote
mikemaker Posted February 25, 2007 Author Report Posted February 25, 2007 Many thanks to Lou and Frank for offering to help me out with the shoes. I think I'll take Norm up on his offer as he is only about 20 minutes away frome me. That will also give me an excuse to check out his trailer and drink a few beers. Norm, I'll call you later this week and we'll get together. Thanks again guys, I love this forum. Quote
