Have it spray welded and ground back to standard. Have it offset ground for even a little more CI.

Michael, it sounds like you answered your question in a previous post when you stated VPW has an NOS standard 230 crank. Why don't you just get one from them and your worries are over.

that motor is a 218 i would say since its out of a 48 its not a 230 right?

No not right- engines from 34 thru 59/60 will all interchange.

The water return neck speaks later, the fanbelt and pullys speak later- I am betting a 230- If it were me I would probably buy that engien and try and get it running- but at the very least I would ask guy for serial number- it could even be a 140 hp 59 engine-

I hate to hijack a thread but...Is the 59 140hp engine the same block as the earlier 230? I was thinkin' I had read the compression [the head] was the difference.

i was talking about plymouth does a 1951 plymouth have a 230?

I believe that some 1951 Plymouth's may have a 230 CI engine if the engine has been replaced. Others may not if the engine has not been replaced. My susgestion is you keep buying crankshafts until you find one that your machinest tells you will work. I gave a machinable crankshaft to Tim Adams a year or so ago and I am sure he will sell it to you so your machinist can evaluate it. Not sure if it is a 230 crankshaft but your machinist may or may not be able to measure it. If it will not work I am sure someone else has one to sell you. You just need to keep buying them until you find the one that will work for you. The advice you have been given here so far is apparently of no value so keep on buying. You will soon be the crankshaft guru.

Once you accumulate a good supply of 230 cranks, you can then hawk the ones that you don't use on eBay.

dont kid yourself on ebay, there is probably a guy somewhere you has no access to the forum, and needs one and will gladly pay a few hundred to get one. if their getting 500 - 1000 for a used p15 gas tank, anything is possible.

Hmm....

"Hold on a minute. What does 75 MPH and a strong crankshaft have in common?

The answer is engine RPM's. With your overdrive transmission exactly what RPM's will your engine be spinning at 75 MPH?

I did the math and calculated my engine RPM's long before I elected to install my overdrive transmission. Seems like you are shotgunning into unknown territory." --Don Coatney, 1/25/2010 @ 3:56 PM CST.

"Analysis Paralysis, if we keep asking the same ??? when the answer stares us in the face.

Michael, you are going to drive yourself crazy before this car is on the road, there is good direction on here, heed the advice, tackle 1 area at a time. After a while you are either going to be an expert on P15s, or will drive yourself crazy, you should go and buy another P15, a driver, use it and see what there like, and keep working on your current, then when it is finished sell the driver." --Rockwood, 1/25/2010 @ 5:07 PM CST

"take a look at this engien on e bay- sure looks like a 230- small fanbelt and newer style water neck- get the guy to give you serial numbers- you canthen tell or someone here can - presto crank rods etc - heck it moight even be a great eingine- I bought a 400 buck 48 plym and it ended up having a newly rebuilt motor- might be your answer

"Just because it came out a 48 doesnt mean its a 48 motor. I agree with Lou it looks newer. " --Young Ed, 1/26/2010 @ 8:09 AM CST

"The 230 was in Dodges from 1942 on, until they stopped putting the L6 in Dodge cars." --Captain Neon, 1/26/2010 @ 4:23 PM CST

I read six excellent pieces of advice on the hows and whys of the MoPar 230 ci. L6, and yet you keep hollering for a 230 crank like a new emigrant from California in Minnesota asking about "the HEET stuff you put in the gas."

I don't argue for a living, but after a few years of working in a factory I know male bovine excrement when I see it. No body can get you a 230 crank any faster by your constant asking for one. What are you not telling us in your quest for a 230 cid. L6 cam? You obviously did poorly in math because you came on here asking for a crank "that is standard or 10,000 undersize," and another time you didn't know what unit of measurement your rebuilder was using when he told you that your slugs were off.

Just admit that you don't know what you are doing and stop pretending to be the expert that you proclaim to be in your eBay auctions. There are a lot of good people here that are more than willing to help, but dealing with a know-it-all gets very tiresome. This forum had a lot of give and take, and camaraderie, but since you came on here demanding that people help you and complaining of being bullied every time some one shows you a little tough love it isn't nearly as much fun as it used to be.

BTW, I've never met a lawyer that has as poor writing and communication skills as you. The last time I saw anything similar it was written by a 19-year old that barely graduated from the alternative high school. He too had a martyr complex and was a self-proclaimed expert. I'm just a dummy that got a BS from Excelsior, but I think I communicate better than you. I'd hate to have to read your court motions and briefs.

Michael, I'll bet that if someone was to take a poll on the odds of most of us actually volunteering to help you with anything, the results would be very low. You clearly don't actually bother to read the answers posted in the threads you participate in, because three threads later you'll ask the same question again. I hope you get your car built one of these days, but I wish you would do it in silence with the help of the "experts" that keep giving you strange advice.

it bothers me the level of disrespect people here have for others, were suppose to be mopar family, on here its the opposite, i dont care anymore, this forum has a bad name out there, and everyone i speak to says the same thing its always a few guys ruining it for everyone else.

Michael I think your taking this car building too seriously. It's a hobbie have fun and enjoy it. It's not about the money or the best car It's about the friends you have and make along the way!
