You might want to do a search on this subject. I think it's been discussed here. I used a rattle can silver from Auto Zone rated for something-thousand degrees. I have not run my engine yet but I believe others have done the same thing and the paint has held up. Under the hood I've used relatively cheap paint because I figure it's going to get dirty anyway. If it holds up, great, if it doesn't it's not a big deal to me. If you're going to take your car to shows, that's another story.

Yes, there are indeed previous threads about engine paints and opinions

on how to do it.

My personal preference is POR 20 high temp engine paint (by POR 15)....

in a can, applied with about a 2 inch brush. Gives a heavier coat than

spray cans......at least it seems to me it does. Has held up pretty well.

Did not use any primer.

About $18 for this small can.

Just my two centavos.......

I used paint from Hirsch auto for my Buick. I was very happy with it. I think that their paint is very high quality and you can get the correct color from them if you are looking for that.

For my Plymouth I was impatient and just got some ordinary brand from an autostore. No problems with quality yet.

I have used Hirsch products and like them, I am curious if the rusty metal primer from Rust-oleum has been tried by any members and what was the result. My engine has some rust that won`t come off. The engine is assembled so I was wondering if the rusty stuff will work as a primer coat.................Thanks......Lee
