Norm's Coupe Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Interesting. Two different sellers selling the same car, with identical descriptions and picture. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Goes to show, you just can't trust eBay anymore. Quote
Guest jtw3749c Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 To late Reg, I already planned on getting them yesterday. JT Quote
48Dodger Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 They ended the bidding of the west coast auction early due to availability...they must have read our thread, and knew "the jig" was up. Quote
1just4don Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 ..end the west coast due to availability. The first link IS NOW pulled entirely!! Scary to think we can be conned that easy by the bay,,,where are there police??? cant be TOO hard to track down the offender and charge him with "fraud" or attempted grand theft larceny,,thats what it was!! he belongs in JAIL with his buddies. I never say that so must have hit a nerve with ME. Imagine that,,, ME with a 'nerve'!!! How does one protect himself with bay purchases. ??? I just saw a expensive green BIG trator 'by it now' for $10,000 WITH a loader to boot. Somebody is going to get sucked in eventually. It was probably a $70,000 tractor at very least!! And it was a duplicate of another tractor also being auctioned. Would it not behove a 'stealer' to at least wait till the original item went OFF the bay so their wasnt obvious duplicates of same item??? Or would that be too easy!!?? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Shel, Now the MO listing is also gone. That is one reason I would never buy a car on ebay, unless I could see the car, owner and title in person before bidding/buying. The other reason is condition. Even though someone we know may live in the area and can look at the car, that doesn't mean anything either. After all, we all have our own opinion as to what is good and bad. Maybe one doesn't mind a little rust because he can fix it. However, the person looking for us says it's too rusty because they don't do the work, or vise versa. So, it's always best to see it in person yourself. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 So, who knows if a car even exists in those sales? I always go through the sellers feedbak if there are ANT negs and then check to see if the person leaving negs is a whiner. If there is a definite pattern, I will pass. No way would I buy a big ticket item from a low feedback seller. Not likely I'd buy a big ticket item from eBay at all. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I've had lots of happy transactions on ebay. 100% feedback with over 700 individuals. Just remember ....buyer beware...and ask questions. Two thumbs up. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Another ongoing scam: http://forums.aaca.org/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=440353&an=0&page=0&gonew=1#UNREAD Quote
AJ Johnson Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I bought my 1954 Coronet off of eBay & it worked out to be a heck of a deal ($1500). That being said, I am very cautious buying when buying big items on eBay. The car was located about 2 1/2 hours away. I paid for the car in person only after inspecting it & the title. I also had numerous phone conversations with the owner prior to the end of the auction. Heck, the money I paid for the car came from a motorcycle that I sold on eBay just a few weeks earlier. I also bought a motorcycle across the country off of eBay for about $2500. Luckily, I had a buddy in Las Vegas who inspected the bike & title prior to payment. I also had him set up all the shipping to Texas. There are some good deals out there. But a wise person treats every auction as if it is a scam. I personally don't trust "Buy-it-now" auctions for vehicles, or ones that require instant "deposits". I don't send large amounts of cash with Paypal or money order. If I can't pay for it in person, with cash, then they don't really want to sell it. AJ Quote
PatS.... Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I realize most eBay deals go well...I've never had a problem. There is an enormous amount of trust involved in these transactions and it seems 90% of sellers are honest hardworking fair people. The bad guys are making it very tough to weed out the good from the bad. Quote
