greg g Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 The news has reported that in the near future, sighns will be popping up around the state identifiing projects where Obama Dollars are being spent. So I guess its all right to get all warm and fuzzy about the work being done on bridges and roads and the like. However the report states that $900,000.00 will be spent ont he signage. or from 4 to 5 grand apiece. Nice work for a NY sign shop, probably not, I can be 90% sure that the signs are being made out of state. The report stated that other states are spending about 3 to 4 hundred bucks a sign. As usual NY spends more gets less and helps no one along the way. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Are the signs to be imported from China. LOL Dennis:D Quote
dezeldoc Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 I here tell harbor freight is now in the sign buisness! Quote
adam_knox Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 I don't like to talk politics on car forums, as the time and association with my car is my "moment of Zen." But to perhaps make you feel better here's Wisconsin's brilliance. We budgeted to build a new interchange by the downtown. When finished, we were about $70k under the budgeted amount. So to tell the locals about how thrifty we were, we made made advertisements. Total cost to tell everyone we saved $70,000...$70,000! Note:"We" means not me! Okay, now back to my fun hobby! Quote
dezeldoc Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Ya know what they say, if they are to dumb to do the job promote them! well all the bright ones must be at the top now! Quote
IronMike Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Sounds like "The Peter Principle" in effect...... The Peter Principle states that people that do good work are continuously promoted until they reach their own level of incompetence. The Peter Principle is at work in most government or bureaucratic agencies. I believe it was Will Rogers that said "Thank goodness we don't get all the government we pay for" or something to that effect...... Quote
claybill Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 a political scam for sure. wonder where it started? bill Quote
RobertKB Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 a political scam for sure. wonder where it started?bill I would hazard a guess that the first political scam started about 10,000 years ago with the development of civilization. They say prostitution is the oldest profession but crooked politicians probably came first. I guess like the old adage says, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." It's a good thing I am not cynical. Quote
Don Jordan Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I don't know what the big deal is. When in doubt do as California does and print IOUs. I mean really - how hard can that be? Many of us had parents that went through the depression - we've been down before we'll make it again. Of course it was WWII that got us out of that depression... Quote
dezeldoc Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I don't know what the big deal is. When in doubt do as California does and print IOUs. I mean really - how hard can it be Don, my wife works for the state, at a big name college and no raises in the past 5 years, then in december they got a 3% raise, now they are taking 10% plus 3 days off a month without pay, and now iou's! this state has gone down the toilet, heck the whole country for that matter. i was reading about all the jobs that were suppost to be created and it all was just numbers on paper no real proof of how many actual jobs were saved or created, that by the commander in chief! Quote
greg g Posted July 14, 2009 Author Report Posted July 14, 2009 No real jobs will be created in this country till American;s either individuals, or small business or corporations begin to make products here that people want and need to be sold at a reasonable price. We can't mortgage our next 200 years o buying disposable consumer goods off shore, and selling fast food. Granted construction jobs are great for those that have them but they are by their definition short tearm ad basically dead end. And how long can we base our economy on consumable/ disposable items. dezeldoc Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 How bout if they quit bailing out the big co's and then giving the same pigs that were so greedy as to run it into the ground by thier enormous bonus and salarys, more bonus with our bailout money, give the people 40-50 grand and let them start spending it and buying things to let the manfacurer and retailers start making money. bailing them out won't do anyhing if nobody is buying anything. seems today the prez said unemployment is going to continue to rise, but don't know how high, till things catch up. greg g Posted July 18, 2009 Author Report Posted July 18, 2009 State issued stop work order onthe signs today. The other day when a local TV reporter asked the Governor about them, He smuggly asked her to face Washington, because that was were the requirement came from, and said that the state was trying to be in compliance witht he Federal Mandate. Today a rather than correcting the situation, they issued a stop work order on the signs. (So from one extreme to the other) and a governors spokesperson, said that apparently they were misinformed ( or more likely uninformed) regarding the necessity of the signs at each project. Well crap we know the state ain't got no money of its ows so if anything is going on they must be overspending someone elses, as such no signs are really necessary. In the back ground several, folks can be seen snickering at the Governors wise a$$ed remarks to the reporter. One of them was one of out local reps. He will be getting a letter regarding his sophomoric behavior from yours truely. So I guess sometimes asking questions can make things happen. Quote
