Normspeed Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Two things on my to-do list: A vacuum tank with a one-way valve to hold the vacuum once it's accumulated, for my high performance wolf whistle; A small inline fuel pressure guage, just because. Anyone done these projects? Parts sources? Suggestions welcomed. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 How about one of those 'juice can' vacuum reservoirs that Ford used in the 1970's-80's with a one-way valve from a power brake booster? Quote
eric wissing Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Would a resevoir also help with the wipers? If I remember correctly doesn't Don C. have one on his Blue Racer? Eric Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 any sealed container ith tubes in and out for you vacuum lines will do the trick..a check valve can be found in any junkyard..look in the vicinity of the vacuum booster or one going to the cruise control..most are about 1/2 in center..about 1 inch long overall..it is a check valve if you can suck on it and get flow..blow on it and get blocked port...fuel pressure gauges are also very common..any of the spped sectionof the chain stores should have them..if not check Summit out online... teardrop puller Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Try a vacume power brake valve, that little thing that plugs into the power brake booster. It is a one way check valve. Scrounge the valve and the little rubber thing it is in. kai Quote
Normspeed Posted January 23, 2007 Author Report Posted January 23, 2007 Great suggestions, I hadn't thought about the Ford style vacuum cans. Looks like Pick-A-Part will be seeing me soon. My car has electric wipers so the vacuum reservoir is strictly for the whistle. With the dual carbs and cam, the motor develops enough vacuum when decelerating or idling but when accelerating or cruising fast on the freeway, not enough. Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 I have a cuople of those "juice" or "coffee" cans reservoirs if you want one, your's for favors past. Send me an address. Quote

greg g Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 VW Audi have a plastic thing looks like a carrier for 2 dozen pingpong balls. Usually attached to the underside of the hood or the firewall with zip tie type fasteners. Should be tube in and tube out with check valve included. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks guys for the info. Charlie, I'll PM you. Anyone else running a fuel pressure guage? Just wondering how others might be plumbed. I run a 6v electric pump and I'll be interested to see what kind of pressure I have. I think it's pretty good. Thought I'd put the guage somewhere near the tee fitting in the line, maybe just after the fitting. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 4, 2007 Author Report Posted February 4, 2007 A P15-D24 thank you to Old Daddy for sending some cool vacuum cans. The large one will tuck under the right fenderwell nice and clean and close to the imtake. Oh man, when I get this thing plumbed up the floozies will be all over me. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Norm; Hope the floozies will know what to do with your imtake all plumbed up:D I always thought the best time to use a wolf wistle was when slowing down not speeding up:confused: Least I have hade much better luck that way. Quote
junkyardjeff Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Mid 50s olds with power brakes have a big reserve tank for the vacumn along with a check valve, they are on the divers side mounted on the frame or inner fender. Jeff Quote

I heard you already have to fight the floosies with a stick! HA HA HA.... That is a cool whistle though, better that to do it yourself, you won't get slapped with the window up.....MKSTR! Quote

bob_amos Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Norm, GM makes a real nice reserve tank. It is about 5 inches round and has 2 ports. One an input port with the second being the output port for you vacuum accessories. It also has 2 mounting tabs for easy mounting. A small check valve can be purchased from just about any parts supplier. The tank, as I recall was in the $10 range and the check valve around $6. If you can't find one let me know and I can have one in stock for you the next time you make a run out my way. I may even have some in stock right now. I'd have to look to confirm that though. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 Thanks Bob. OldDaddy (Charlie) sent me some vac cans he had. One is much like you described but just needs the check valve and second vac line installed. I hope to get to the local parts store this weekend and see what I can put together. Looks like it will be a good weekend for indoor projects, we should be getting some rain. Quote
