Hi all, it was 64, sunny here at my place in Southern Manitoba today, so rolled the car outdoors, and did some sanding of the base primer.

I sanded it with 220, will shoot on 2 k urethane primer surfacer next, the plan is to do the whole car, but will sand each panel as I go.

All chrome is off, still need to pul lights, grill and bumpers. Hope do shoot on the primer in a few days.

The this will be blocked, and anything that needs re-filling or glazing will get it after the first blocking. This will be followed by more urethane primer/surfacer.

It was a real nice warm day, the car was even warm to the touch, was able to work outside in my shirt.

Hope to get this over with my June, the latest..........Fred PS Tim, the Tremclad primer sands nice and slick, it actually sands quite well

If the doctor lets me, I'm going to play in the sun & sand also this weekend. OOPS a little different, I have already been told that I will not be able to take a car, as I haven't been released to drive yet. This is at the AVI Casino in Laughlin, Nv.

Each time you work on your car you are getting closer to paint day. Good to hear all is well and the weather cooperating. Hate to tell you though that the cold and snow we have in parts of Alberta right now are headed your way.

Yup, I did. We are having a couple of days of crappy weather after a fantastic weekend and they say this weekend will be sunny and warm here.

I'm hoping to get the disc brakes and wheels on the Chrysler this weekend, then bolt the engine and transmission together to get ready for installation.

It's nice to be feeling so much better after this long lay-off . Still very weak but that's getting better daily. :)

My buddy is still here in Calgary, he's heading east in a couple of weeks after his wife gets settled in her new job. The economy here is still OK for her business. I'll be going out likely mid-May.

I still have a job nobody else wants so I'm safe, too:eek:

Tomorrow I'm blasting all day. Yahoo. Should be at the end of it soon. Pat S. I envy you but I'll be wrenching and having fun soon too. Glad to hear you're feeling better and are still employed. We're getting to the season when even you guys up there will occasionally get some warm weather.

Thanks Joe. Your project updates have really kept me motivated.

Up here it's 10 months of winter and two months of bad sledding!:D

Hi all, I have all trim, bumpers, and lights etc off car, she is almost sanded, I don't have to be too fussy yet, as the primer surfacer is next.

Tonight, will finish sanding her down, will clean, tape and mask whatever needs to be, and will shoot on 3 coats of high-build 2 k urethane primer surfacer tomorrow.

The next step will be blocking with 220, then glazing all imperfections, this will be followed by 2 more coats of primer surfacer, might use lacquer based primer surfacer, as you can then sand it with 400 or 500 to a real slick surface. That will be then be ready for sealer and paint.......At least it sounds simple............;)

Sounds good Fred. Just don't get too sunburned sanding out there in all that sun.:D

Norm it's overcast and 62, so not much chance of sunburn, but when it's sunny the UV index is already 5 to 6 up here, seems awful high for this time of the year.........ps in summer it's 7 to 9, but remember were pretty far north compared to you Southern Folks

Fred, no need for the lacquer primer the polly will sand fine. keep the cross product to a minium and stay with the same manufacture and type if at all possable. less chance of reaction between products.

Dennis.

I might see you up there this weekend if I can talk the wife into going!

Nice view there Dennis. Looks like it will be good weather too. Car shows don't start around here until the first of May. That picture kind of gets my cabin fever going. Got out and washed the old truck this evening, that helps a bit, but I'm ready to hit the cruise nights.

That show looks like a lot of fun, have a good time Dennis.

Okay, good advice. Today I shot on the 2 k urethane primer/surfacer, this time I thinned it about 15%.

Still this new elcheapo 1.7 tip hvlp gun, was not putting it on nicely, then the darn air valve stuck.

I had an idea, I poured the primer into my better cheapo 1.4 finishing gun, it sprayed on like you wouldn't believe.

The elcheapo set that comes with 2 guns, a 1.4 and a 1.7 tip, will be going back to the place I bought it, what a bunch of crap.

Gonna look for a 2.0 tip gun, then try and shoot this stuff as high build unreduced.

Am I on the right track here.........Fred

Finished priming whole car except the roof, tonight, used about 3 quarts 2 k urethane high build primer surfacer. It worked well thinned at 15%, and used my 1.4 HVLP frinishing gun, instead of the crappy 1.7 tip hoser gun I have.

It looks good, can see a few flaw areas, a few high spots,I'm sure more will reveal themselves, but all in all, looks good. The roof is next, then some serious blocking, glazing , then paint, I hope. This is a huge job, lots of work to doing the entire body of one of these old goils..........ugg-ga -ga-ga-gah

Now ya know why we charge so much!! Regular collision work is much faster and more profitable , so now you know also why a lot of shops won't do them or will do them as fill in only.
