maurice wade Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I would like to have a spare fuel pump for my 47 Plymouth. Can the fuel pump be purchased at a local auto parts store, say like Napa? If so doe's anyone have parts numbers or brand they prefer? Thanks for anyone's help on this. Maurice Quote
hkestes41 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Yes parts store.588 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/parts/partsShelf.jsp?categoryDisplayName=Fuel+Delivery&fromType=parts&fromString=search&parentId=cat10007¤tPage=1&filterByKeyWord=588&isSearchByPartNumber=true&navValue=14900078&categoryNValue=14999999&fromWhere=&itemId=prod10652&displayName=Fuel+Pump&searchText=588 or no glass http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=NFP&PartNumber=M847&Description=Fuel+Pump+(OE+Mechanical+Type) I have actually purchased 2 from NAPA on line. In both instances when I ordered the one without be glass bowl just because they were cheaper, the ones I received had the glass bowl. If I remember correctly someone else posted that they had also received the glass bowl version when ordering the standard pump. Quote
blueskies Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Be sure to stake the pin that holds the lever to the body of the pump... don't ask me how I know... It sucks when the pin falls out on the road in the middle of no-where. Pete Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 If I remember correctly someone else posted that they had also received the glass bowl version when ordering the standard pump. Yes, that was me. The type with the glass bowl will not fit in my '35. I went to my local NAPA, we saw a picture of the one without the bowl, it was actually cheaper than the one with the bowl, but when it arrived it had the bowl. He reordered it and again it came with the bowl so I don't think you can get the newer non-bowl type anymore. Quote
steveplym Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 I'd go with the NAPA one, but be weary of the autozone pumps. I put an autozone pump on my old truck and it left me stranded a year later. I bought one from NAPA after that and have been running it for about 3 years now without any problems. Quote
grey beard Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 My NAPA man told me that all NAPA fuel pumps are made by Carter - even the new 5-volt pump I just bought is a Carter. Mebby that's why they last longer. I like! Quote
