I'm about to embark on installing a set of radials on my 42 Dodge. I picked up set of 15" rims yesterday and have lined up a set of radials that are this size: 185/60R-15. Do you think this will look alright on my Dodge? I wanted to try out radials on my old rig and not be into major bucks to see how they work out. Jon

way to short,23 inches and probably to wide. You are probably loosing nearly 5 inches of diameter. 215 75, 15 would be closer to normal diameter. you stock tires are 28 inches give or take. the tires sie you noted are probably from a Honda Civic. Your dodge will look like it has skateboard wheels on it.

you can only put so much meat under the fenders without incurring a possiblility to scrub on the front inner tire rods or risk inner scrape on the rear in a hard turn if you have any body shift and most do due to tired rear shackle bushings..now if your car happens to have the factory panhard rod..(the Plymouth did not get this I believe)..forget the last as the body will stay stationary to the frame and the flex in the sidewall shoud be enough to prevent the scrape on the rear...going to 15's just limited the max width...staying with period size rims is limiting the tire's width for when mounted on a smaller rim and will not fully develop the width of the tire as the top is more narrow..most tire brochures will show this differnce by rim width for actual tire height and tread width..

I had 205's all around for a while, speedo read about 6 mph faster than teh car was going. I put a pair of 225 75's on the rear and the speedo and odo are nearly dead on against measured miles and those construction site radar speed signs. Speedo says 55 radar says 54.

These days no matter what you put on looks narrow in comparison to current tires. My Jetta has 225 50 16's on it which are about 8 inches wide at the tread.

So 215's or 225's 75 seems to be the consensus for 15 inch rims.

225's are recommended for 6 inch rims, mine are on 5 inch wide. Not know what wheels you have, but mine fit in the fender with about 1/4 ich to spare.

As Tim noted on sharp righthand turns I get a bit of rub, specially if the trunk is full, due to wobbly rear spring bushings. In 42 the plymount still had the round open rear fender cuts, Mine are the later smaller type.

I get the same rubbing noise too Greg. I'm running 205 75/15's and the speedometer seems to be off a bit too. I may go to a 215 or 225 once I need new tires. I probably will in a year or so. Been running these since about 2001.
