55 Fargo Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Hi all, here are some pics of my bodywork progress. I know pics don't say much, but figured I would show you what I have done. Next step is to perfect all the panels, but first will remove all trim, lights, bumpers etc, I have done this many times. Then I will lay on 2 to 3 coats of 2 k urethane high buld primer/surfacer. This will be blocked, all imperfections corrected. The roof is not done yet, it is only sitting in base pre-kote primer, BTW, this is rusty metal primer, I have used everything under the sun over it with no bad reactions, it has fantastic adhesion, and is a great bare metal primer. I have gone as far as wiping a panels with a rag soaked with lacquer thinner, once the primer was fully cured, the primer was not phased. The roof is a night mare, I am predicting a lot of filler, and most likely some polyester high filling primer, good thing the roof is fairly high, that way most shorter folks won't see the highs and lows. There is also a pic of my under painting I just did in Gloss Black.....Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 One more pic... The door on the passenger side needs adjust , on these you can adjust the door to come inward by moving the hinges....some pics have shadows too, but for the most part there pretty straight Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Fred..that back wheel is pointed forward..other than that you be getting along good... Quote

Rodney Bullock Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Fred, I was under the impression that your car was a basket case and you were just trying to glue it together:) That car looks fantastic! You must be one of those that must have something absolutly perfect:confused: The car looks like it's ready for sealer. I know there are somethings that can't be seen in pic's however the car looks real real nice. The motor area and under hood look great. You must have been outside with a flash light and double overcoat. Oh mybe you just could not see in the dark of winter:rolleyes: Fred it looks great....PS that was me in your town, I just did not have time to stop:cool: Quote
bigred48 Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 I agree with Rodney! I know you started with a mess but you are certainly no where near that anymore. would you like to come south and do the same thing to my car? Your work looks great, I am excited to see it with some color on it. Good work Quote

That old shack in the backgorund is where my Momma was raised along with 11 other kids, my Mom left there in 1951. In the pic is my Mom's youngest Brother and 2 of my Cousins, this is a real Back country small little town....Fred Quote

Maybe Catalina Tan or Dove Grey, or a blue like Coatneys.... Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Looks great Fred. Every day you're a step closer to it being finished. That's what I tell myself about my own project. It looks good from the pictures. I have a dent similar to yours in my roof and that, I think, is where the oil canning is. I'll let you know how my body work goes as I progress. If all you've got is minor tweaking, you're in great shape. And the car looks excellent. Quote
dezeldoc Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Keep at it fred, looks good from here. keep blocking till ya have arms like popeye!! Quote
RobertKB Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Fred, come to Lethbridge and work on the bodywork my D25 needs. Your car is looking great and I think your bodywork is going to be better than you think. If ever out Alberta way, make sure to stop in. Quote
steveplym Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Looking good Fred, that bodywork is coming along nicely. Keep it up, it gets better. Quote

55 Fargo Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 Fred after you stop in northern MN to help Andy with his 4door just keep on coming down to the twin cities. Guys thank you all for the compliments, but really, pics don't give you the real scoop. My body work is very amateur, and probably a little below average, I will be lucky to get the panels somewhat straight for paint. BigRed 48, is doing a fine job, he is doing more work than I did by the looks of it. I thank you all, and appreciate your comments, but it really is not that great, the car needs a lot of prep yet before paint. I hope that the final product is presentable enough for cruise nights etc, hope I too would not be ridiculed for average or home body work.....................Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted April 7, 2009 Author Report Posted April 7, 2009 Here is a Chrysler Convertable, that was freshly painted OEM Catalina Tan, which is a cream/pale yellowish color. Not sure I would go with this on mime or not, as there is a guy near by with 2 Chrysler T&Cs, that are both painted Catalina Tan, or cream color of some type..... Quote
RobertKB Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 As I've said before, I like darker colours on our old cars as it shows their curves nicely. And who doesn't like nice curves? Quote
