Don Coatney Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Bob; You missed a couple. Blueskies car is pictured next to The 49 owned by Johnny. Believe this is a Tulsa shot. And Ed (oldmopar) from Central New Jersey also has 2 cars featured. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 Indeed, I did miss a thing or two, Don. Thanks for adding them. I think the one with Pete and John's car is from Tulsa. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 Evidently there is a branch of the Plymouth Owners Club in Kansas City. At the swap meet, one fellow gave me an older publication which included a membership app. There is also another branch in the St Louis/southern Ill area. So, for me, one in KC is at least 2 hours drive. The one in St L is about 4 hours drive.....if wanting to join in on any of their events. Guess that's why I maybe haven't ever joined. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Bob, I know what you mean about the POC locals being too far away. It's the same here in Wisconsin. The club members are spread out across the state, some being about 150 miles away. Because of that, the monthly club meetings are held in various cities. That means if you want to attend that meeting you almost have to stay in a motel once a month just to attend. That is, unless you want to spend several hours driving in one day to and from. They are just too spread out. Not only that, but when you join a club you are making a commitment to that club. That means to be a good club member you should be at the meetings, and take part on the days the club wants to do things. That doesn't always work out. I'd much rather just go to events when I want, if I have the time. That way, if I don't go I'm not letting anyone down. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Bob, there's one near Springfield too. Loyd Groshong: groshong@socket.net I have debated getting involved with the group near KC, but working most weekends makes me think that it will be similar to my time with the RMPOC. Over two hours is a long drive just to grab a burger and a Coke. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 We have a couple local clubs here in Joplin and the immediate area. The Heartland Antique Auto Club has been around many years - I did belong to it in the 1970s. They put on a show at the local mall once a year, and would meet and do short tours during the summer. Then there is the MoPar Club, but their cars are a bit newer in general, and more oriented to the bigger engine. But, I have opted not to join either as I have plenty of things doing to keep me busy - so I just attend what events I can and call it good. Quote
steveplym Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I've thought about joining the Lincoln Land region POC. It is about 1 1/2 hrs drive to St. Louis for me. I'm a member of a local car club here in the area. We put on two shows and just enjoy hanging out on the weekends with the cars. It's fun to do things with other like minded people. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I don't think the Lincoln Land section does much in St. Louis, after all they are from Illinois. I'm not sure exactly where they meet. Quote
blueskies Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 The club members are spread out across the state' date=' some being about 150 miles away.[/quote'] 150 miles is nothing... There isn't a POC region or events of any kind in the entire state of Idaho... The nearest would be the Cascade/Pacific Region in Portland, OR, 600 miles or 9 hours away, and then the Rocky Mountain Region, in Denver Co, 800 miles or 12 hours away. The only other old Plymouth owner I have ever met in person and seen his car, aside from the group in Tulsa, is Bill Ward, in Salt Lake City, UT, 4 hours away. For me to drive 150 miles to a POC event would be like Norm driving to the end of his driveway... I'm still a member of the POC though, because it is one of a few ways for me to connect with Plymouth related stuff. The Plymouth Bulletin is a terrific club magazine, worth the price of membership in itself. Pete Quote

blueskies Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Pete' date=' if things are that far away from you, you really need to move closer to civilization.[/quote']No thanks. And, unfortunately, "Civilization" is moving closer to me... I'm content with my own private Idaho. Pete Quote
blueskies Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I think the one with Pete and John's car is from Tulsa. Yup, in the convention center parking garage they day we left for home. John must have snuck into the spot next to me when I wasn't looking, to take a picture... Pete Quote
