Bingster Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I know you can step down from a higher voltage to a lower one. But let's say I wanted to run a 12v accessory on a 6v system. Can you step up? Quote
steveplym Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Check this link out. David Maxwell had this in his car at one time. http://www.casmfg.com/Accessories.htm Go down to the center of the page. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I used a 6 to 12 v converter to power my turn signals. Solved my two biggest problems: signal light too dim and blink speed too fast. The lower amperage from 12v made the flasher work slower and the higher voltage causes the 6v bulbs to burn brighter when flashing. I was pretty happy with myself when I came up with that idea, and that it actually worked. Quote
Bingster Posted April 3, 2009 Author Report Posted April 3, 2009 Where did you get the converter? Quote
Bingster Posted April 3, 2009 Author Report Posted April 3, 2009 Okay, I checked out that web site. So it becomes possible to go to a salvage yard, get a windshield washing system out of a contemporary car and install it into my '47 Desoto. Those old jar systems don't hold very much fluid. A new large resevoir plus an electric pump would do the trick I think. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I got a 6 to 12 volt convertor from Meyer Electronics http://www.pressenter.com/~cmeyer/ I have it powering my stereo and a 12v power outlet. So far it's working great. Merle Quote

If you need more amps, the pricier units that Merle noted should meet your needs. Quote
