wills 51 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Sounds WAY to good to be true and the zero feedback makes me wonder??? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 From over on the Stude forum I read a post as recent as last week that there are now a number of scams selling cars that don't exist..pictures/descriptions are skimmed off of other forums and such and posted for sale...people go to get their purchase and nothing is there.. making it harder and harder to do trading these days..and some of these folks are homegrown..even have decent English grammer... Brad Lustig Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 There have also been some people on the Datsun forum that have come across ebay pages with trojan viruses. Quote
rearview Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Zero feedback, pre approved bidders only, and no paypal is a very bad combination. That, combined with "buy it now" in text only and not in the auction itself is a violation on ebay. It's BS and should be turned in, that will help sort it out. You can always ask for a specific picture of a detail on the car, and when the person doesn't produce it, you'll know it's BS. Quote
Brad Lustig Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 An engine shot would be an easy shot for them to take and not an unreasonable request. Quote
rearview Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 An engine shot could be dowloaded anywhere, even here. ...and this marks my 30th post. I have hit puberty now Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Just for fun I emailed the seller to make an appointment for my Bro.in law who lives in a neighboring town to come and inspect the car. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I wouldn't let the zero feedbacks worry me and being registered since 1999. However, I would want to see the car before buying it, or any other car regardless of price and stated condition. I agree $8,000 is a very low price for something that sounds that nice. Again though, it may be just a case of the seller wants to sell it fast. He could need the money right away, or could be part of an estate, etc. and they priced it to sell fast. Would be worth checking it out if someone was really interested in buying it to keep or make a few bucks by reselling it. The listing does say it's an older restoration and also that the transmission is acting up. Maybe they just want to unload the car. Just because some people have a computer and register on a site like ebay doesn't mean they know how to use the computer either. Evidently that person did not know how to use the "Buy It Now" option. Not at all surprising to me. I knew a recently departed man who was 93 years old. Knew him for about 10 years and he had the computer and email all that time. However, he knew how to open his mail and read it, but never did learn how to answer it or send email. I'd send him email and he would answer me with a letter in the regular mail. So......we have to keep that in mind too. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 being the tight knit group that were are.,,if there is ever a car in a members back yard and someone is interested..a quick look-see can at least see if for real and general description....this is not an attemp to make a member an appraiser or such mind you..just a spotter... BobT-47P15 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Tim, I went and looked at a Stude pickup for greg g sometime back and sent him pictures and info. Did not mind doing it at all..... The truck needed a fair amount of work, and he did not buy, but at least he then knew what it was. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I noticed in one pic that there is a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror. 2. How far IS Far Rockaway, NY?? 3. Did you notice that they will include a set of Chrysler wire wheels?? Personally I would put them right on if they were in good shape. A new set of four of those is about $1600 now. Deduct the value of wire wheels, and the car itself is now down to $6400. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 If something is within a reasonable commute to me and a member here would like a look-see..would do my best to give a report..as long as that man understand that I am not a professional appraiser. I bought the wife's motorcycle that way..friend said it was for sale local to him...I ask if he could look-see..he called back with two word.."its gorgeous" I called the man within the hours..left town for a 8 hour one way trip to get the bike and was back home the following night. 1948Skip Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Just went to the site listed and it says the auction was taken off Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Probably will never know the real answer - might have been that good and that cheap...and bought quick. Quote
rearview Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 If the seller ended it, it would still be there, but listed as no longer available. Ebay had a problem and fixed it. If it was "real" it will reappear as a relist with buy-it-now properly established. Using the text buy-it-now is an attempt to defraud ebay from their fees. Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I got this message from eBay after I hit the "ask seller a question" button and asked if I could send someone to have a look at the car. Dear grandpadodge (regoevans@sbcglobal.net): Our records indicate that you recently sent an email to or received an email from weesone through the eBay email system (for example, you may have sent an email to this member through Ask Seller a Question or received an email from this member through Contact eBay Member). Sometimes eBay accounts are used to send email solicitations for transactions outside of eBay, or to send unrelated questions in hopes that you will respond so that the other party can obtain your email address. We wanted you to be aware of the potential fraud risk these solicitations pose and encourage you to be cautious about the email you received from this member. Please keep in mind, sales that take place outside of eBay are not eligible for any eBay or PayPal protective services and you run the risk of losing your money or your item if you complete these transactions. We would encourage you to review the eBay pages related to Fraud Protection at the address provided below for information on steps you can take to ensure that your transactions are successful: http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/isgw-buyer-protection-steps.html If you have already sent the item or sent payment for the item, please reply to this email and we will send you additional information about how to protect yourself. Norm's Coupe Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Reg, Did you get that message through your "My Ebay" on the ebay site or through direct email? Ebay always says "Do not respond to this message", and says to go to the ebay site to do so. If that was a direct email saying to reply to it I would think twice about doing so. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 ad pulled before I got to see what all the hubbub was about... Quote
